InstaDeep is looking for a new Research Intern to join our expanding Research team in Cape Town. Our research focuses on Reinforcement Learning with topics of interest including population-based methods, combinatorial optimisation, meta-learning, language models and multi-agent systems. Our efforts are towards developing valuable research breakthroughs in RL that were previously out of reach. In the Research team, the role of a Research Intern is to contribute to the team's research efforts through the development and implementation of novel ideas, whilst building effective, modular and sustainable software solutions. The core tasks of a Research Intern include: developing prototype applications, providing programming support to research projects, implementing software libraries, running experiments, and contributing to InstaDeep's publication efforts. Responsibilities

  • Implement and develop novel algorithms and research ideas in fields such as machine learning, deep learning and reinforcement learning.
  • Contribute to our publication efforts.
  • Encourage and support good engineering practices as research is translated into reusable and maintainable code.
  • Report and present experimental results and research findings clearly and efficiently, both internally and externally, verbally and in writing. From time to time, collaborate with the team in representing InstaDeep at conferences and events.
Minimum Requirements
  • Work permit for South Africa.
  • Either already obtained or currently working towards a postgraduate degree in Computer Science, Machine Learning or a related scientific field.
  • Experience in developing and debugging in Python or similar languages.
  • Experience using machine learning frameworks such as PyTorch, Tensorflow, and/or Jax.
Nice-To-Haves
  • Research and software engineering experience demonstrated via previous experience, contributions to open-source software, or coding competitions.
  • Proven ability to contribute to research communities and/or efforts, including publishing scientific papers at conferences (ICLR, NeurIPS, ICML, etc.) and/or workshops.
