Overview of Duties:
The Research Associate, a social scientist, will join the Climate and Health Research Group and provide day-to-day scientific input into the social science component of a multi-country study and other studies as directed by the Principial Investigator. They will collaborate closely with other social scientists across the participating countries to ensure coherence and quality in the study's implementation. The role encompasses project coordination, data management, analysis, and dissemination activities, including leading and contributing to manuscript development for publication, under the guidance of the Principal Investigator. The successful candidate is expected to develop an independent research portfolio, supervise students, and contribute their expertise in social science research methods. They will also engage with other social scientists at AHRI working on climate and health projects and support the professional growth of junior staff.
Overview of duties:

  • Project coordination.
  • Design data collection tools.
  • Oversee data collection and processing.
  • Coordinate social science research assistants within the team.
  • Multisectoral stakeholder engagements (Community advisory board, local traditional authority, municipality, civil society, government departments, media).
  • Responsible for project documents (securing regulatory approval, study tools, SOPs).
  • Analysis of study data.
  • Present study findings at local and international meetings.
  • Develop scientific manuscripts for publication in collaboration with the PI and other study team members.
  • Supervision of students (MSc, PhD).
  • Contribute to the development of research proposals for grant funding.
Minimum Qualifications:
  • A doctoral degree in a relevant field which may include but is not limited to social science, research psychology or medical anthropology.
  • Record of scholarly publication, including first-authored scientific journal articles.
Minimum Experience:
  • Expertise in research design and strong analytical skills
  • Demonstrated track record engaging in fieldwork, involving m.eeting with stakeholders including study participants, clinicians, community members, and researchers.
  • Experience working in or collaborating with researchers in health-related research.
  • Prior supervision of a research team or coordination of research activities in low- and middle-income settings.
  • Experience in mental health research will be desirable.
Skills Required:
  • Good oral and written communication skills in English.
  • Good interpersonal skills and team orientated.
  • Self-motivated, able to work independently and as part of a multidisciplinary team.
  • Accuracy and precision.
  • Computer literacy.
  • Report writing.
  • Must be able to work under pressure.
