Job Description

The purpose of the Registered Nurse role in the Medical Ward is to deliver comprehensive, evidence-based, and patient-centred nursing care to adult patients admitted for medical treatment. The RN is responsible for assessing, planning, implementing, and evaluating nursing care in accordance with professional standards, hospital policies, and legal requirements. This role plays a critical part in ensuring positive patient outcomes, maintaining patient safety, supporting recovery, and promoting holistic wellbeing while working collaboratively within a multidisciplinary healthcare team.

Key Work Output and Accountabilities:

Deliver holistic, patient-centred nursing care within the medical ward Conduct accurate patient assessments and develop appropriate nursing care plans Administer medication and treatments in accordance with prescriptions and protocols Monitor, evaluate, and record patient responses to treatment Identify and report changes in patient condition to doctors and nursing management Maintain complete, accurate, and legally compliant patient documentation Ensure compliance with infection prevention and control standards Participate in ward rounds and multidisciplinary team discussions Promote patient safety, dignity, confidentiality, and quality care Support junior staff and contribute to a positive and professional ward environment

Requirements

Minimum of 1-2 years' experience in a medical ward Private hospital experience will be advantageous Strong clinical judgement and problem-solving ability Ability to work effectively within a multidisciplinary team Willingness to work shifts, weekends, and public holidays

Qualifications

Diploma or Degree in Nursing Current registration with the South African Nursing Council (SANC)
