Job Purpose



Applies procedural nursing sequences with regards to the diagnosis, treatment, monitoring and evaluation of psychiatric patients. Participates in feedback sessions with the multidisciplinary team to ensure continuity of care and achieving the goal of

skills for today and wellness for life

. Participates in employee awareness initiatives focused on employee development. Takes responsibility for her own growth.

CLINICAL SPECIALITIES - CONSULTATION AND TREATMENT



Assessing and determining the status of the patient to evaluate the needs and establish interventions required.

Interpreting symptoms and administer medication as prescribed.

Providing the client with an explanation on treatment sequence.

Communicating with the manager / treating doctor / psychologist on specific cases for further referrals.

Ensure that any investigations requested by treating doctor are done on time e.g. blood, radiology tests etc.

Ensure that ward rounds are done at least half hourly or more frequent depending on type of patients in the wards.

ADMINISTRATION



Take responsibility for Human Resource Management by:

- Delegating duties and keeping record of delegation.

- Ensure ward coverage in terms of staff.

- Manage leave planning of your team.

- Manage sick leave patterns.

- Discussing extra staff needed with manager.

- Ensure disciplinary procedures against staff when necessary

- Orientate new staff.

- Performs specific administrative sequences associated with the updating of clinical records and registers

Keep accurate records of

:



- Prescriptions and administration of medication.

- Education, support and advice given

- Referrals done.

- Medical supplies, equipment and drugs.

Ensure the doctor`s orders, the pharmacy book and all records are up to date.

Ensure that patients` notes meet prescribed standards.

Keep record of stock in own area of operation.

QUALITY ASSURANCE



Provide a quality Health Care Service, by

Keeping abreast with new clinical developments, e.g. attending training, in-service training, reading journals, policies and procedures related to the job.

Ensuring that every patient has a care plan designed to fit his needs.

Assist with setting of goals, objectives and intervention for quality service delivery.

Assist with updating of policies and ensuring implementation.

Ensure that all medical equipment is in working order

Adhere to health and safety policies and procedures.

GUIDANCE, MENTORING AND CLINICAL SUPPORT



Supports and guides enrolled nurses, nursing assistants, care workers and general staff with the application of specific health care techniques and approaches by:

Demonstrating and explaining procedural sequences related to testing, treatment, drugs/medication dosage and medical waste disposal and monitoring execution implementing corrective measures to rectify deviations.
