Job Description

Well known facility in Paarl has an opportunity for a Registered Nurse with psychiatric experience to join their team. If you're a dedicated professional looking to make a real impact in healthcare, this is your chance! You will further be responsible for direct and/or indirect nursing care of a patient or a group of patients, for assessing, planning, executing and the implementation of care to meet patient needs. The ideal candidate will have a minimum of 3 - 4 years' experience with psychiatric treatment.

The Registered Nurse in this role is primarily responsible to the unit manager. This position requires close cooperation with all nursing colleagues, as the Registered Nurse is an integral member of the nursing team. Collaboration is also essential with members of the multidisciplinary team, administrative team, and clinic management.

You will be responsible for but not limited to:

Assessing, planning and delivering patient care from admission to hospital continually and until

discharge

Monitoring and evaluation of patient's condition

Administering medications as per prescription

Responsible for general health information for patients and the physiological impact of substance use disorders

Administrating medication and treatments, then monitoring service users for side effects and reactions

Do continuous medical observations and attend to all complaints of service users and arrange appointments with the doctor for follow up consultations

Provide emergency treatment to service users when necessary and arrange for transfer to a hospital if necessary

Provide nursing care and support for service users

Do drug testing of service users as scheduled

Recording nursing progress and keeping records

Mental status examination

Duty allocation

Ward rounds

Emergency trolley check

Patient care

Dispensing of prescribed medication

Attended to mental status evaluation

Takes an accurate patient history

Conducts a physical assessment on resident admission to care centre.

Conducts special observations (e.g. blood pressure, physical checks after a fall)

Assesses the acuity level of the patient

Records incidents thoroughly and accurately

Education:



General Nursing Degree / Diploma with Psychiatry

Active registration with SANC (South African Nursing Council) as a Registered Nurse

Relevant experience within a Psychiatric ward or unit

Psychiatric Trained / Experienced with minimum 3 -4 years psychiatry experience

Understanding of the private healthcare industry, its challenges and role players would be an advantage

Must have a strong understanding of confidentiality issues and the use of discretion
Familiarity with the Nursing Act and SANC regulations

Flexible in working hours/shifts

Capacity to implement and maintain standards of health practice required from

all accredited bodies and appropriate health legislation

Computer proficiency (MS Office - Word, Excel, Outlook)

The skill to manage nursing standards and in-service training
