READVERTSING DIRECTOR: FUTURE EARTH AFRICA HUB LEADERSHIP CENTRE AT RHODES UNIVERSITY
(CONTRACT POST xe2x80x93 approx. 2.5 years)

Rhodes University is seeking to appoint a Director in the Future Earth Africa Hub Leadership Centre and invites suitably qualified candidates to apply.

Requirements
PhD in the areas of sustainability research and innovation with the following experience:

- 10 years relevant experience.
- Previous research experience, preferably within a field of sustainability.
- Previous experience in the execution of project administration and management.
- Must have written scientific and technical reports.
- Experience in conducting field research and publications of technical research reports.
- Records of fundraising and effective writing of research funding proposals.
- Proven experience and track record on regional African scientific/academic leadership on sustainability science.
- Experience in mentorship or supervision of emerging researchers (e.g. post-doctoral fellows, post graduate
students, etc.).
- Experience of continental and global sustainability science engagement.
- Experience of public-private policy engagement on sustainability issues and relevant sectors.
- Leadership and management roles at the Departmental/Faculty/Institutional level having led initiatives to review current functioning or explore new processes or taken responsibility for large projects. These should include the mentoring of young staff, research leadership roles, and the formal headship of a Centre/Institute.
- Leadership, co-ordination and administration at the departmental, faculty, and institutional level.
- Proven record of leadership role in scientific bodies including scientific associations and/or journals.

In terms of Immigration Legislation (Act No. 13 of 2002 & Regulations) as amended, international staff members
(non-SA citizens) have to comply with the provisions of the Act. This therefore means that the period of
employment to non-SA citizens will be guided by the validity period of the work permit. In line with legislation
governing employment of foreign nationals, employment contracts will be offered on the basis that a development
plan would be implemented for the transfer of skills to a South African resident. The onus is on candidates to ensure
that they are in possession of a valid work permit before the commencement of employment at the University,
failing which the employment with Rhodes University will be terminated.

Remuneration
Annual CTC : R900,000.00
