PURPOSE OF THE JOB

  • Inspection and approval/certification of part / product / train / installation as per relevant NDT Methods.
  • Reporting of defects & ensure product compliance as per NDT contractual requirements
  • Inspection of primary parts / sub-assemblies / Underframes / CBS complete
  • Reporting of defects & ensure product compliance (check after rework)
  • Quality performance improvement

MAIN RESPONSABILITIES

The Industrial Quality inspector ensures the compliance of welded products and parts delivered by the ALSTOM facilities. He / She performs inspections, checks, tests, and sampling procedures according to the applicable Quality and NDT instructions on products ready for delivery and on products during their manufacturing process. He/ She must complete NDT quality reports, record associated NCRs, results, KPIs, and give feedback on the inspection results.

Accountabilities & Authorities:

Non-Destructive Testing (ISO 9712)

The Industrial Quality Inspector shall have demonstrated competence to perform non-destructive testing (VT/MT/UT) according to established procedures, within the scope of the competence defined on the certificate and is authorized to:
  • Set up, control, and calibrate non-destructive testing equipment used in inspections in accordance with the standards.
  • Perform non-destructive inspections/tests to ensure quality, product compliance or detect discontinuities (defects) using multiple methods of inspection.
  • Establish techniques for proper examination of products under inspection, ensuring strict adherence to safety regulations and define limitations of application of the testing method.
  • Translate NDT codes, standards, specifications and procedures into NDT instructions adapted to the actual working conditions.
  • Apply non-destructive testing criteria in accordance with applicable specifications or standards and evaluate results.
  • Interpret, organize, and report NDT results.
  • Maintain all product quality reports and inspection records per component/assembly in a timely and accurate manner.
  • Instruct and supervise others when assigned.
  • Liaise with technical specialists.
Industrial Quality
  • Perform inspections of subassemblies or finished ALSTOM products according to well defined criteria using standard physical and mechanical methods.
  • Record inspection results in the industrial digital tools as required.
  • Ensure that the correct revisions of product specifications and drawings are used.
  • Ensure the use of correctly calibrated tools and equipment in all inspections within manufacturing operations.
  • On time reporting of problems from any source related to product quality.
  • Provide adequate feedback on defects and causes through detailed analysis to the Autonomous team / through Workstation Quality animation.
  • Participating in Problem solving activities - QRQC, Quality Animation.
  • Monitoring of corrective and preventative actions and close out of NCRs from internal /external Customer.
  • Assist in the writing and updating inspection procedures, protocol, and checklists.
  • Maintain all controlled document files in a timely and accurate manner.
  • Evaluate problems and make initial recommendations for possible corrective action.
  • Reports to the Industrial Quality Manager the status of inspection results, including KPIs
  • Support Zero Defect Program Objective
  • Carry out internal product audits.
  • Perform other job-related tasks as assigned by Industrial Quality Engineer/Manager

MAIN REQUIRED COMPETENCES

Educational Requirements

Mandatory:
  • Welding and Fabrication Inspector - Level 2
  • Technical Diploma
Desirable:
  • Qualified on special process of his/her scope of work.
  • Magnetic Particle Testing according to ISO 9712 - Level 2
  • Ultrasonic Testing according to ISO 9712 - Level 2
  • Penetrant Testing according to ISO 9712 - Level 2
Experience

Mandatory:
  • 3 - 5 years' experience as a Quality Inspector within a manufacturing industry.
  • 3 - 5 years' experience in a welding/fabrication environment.
  • Must be able to read drawings / specifications and familiar with a variety of measuring and test equipment.
  • Technical background with understanding of critical characteristics of mechanical, welded, and machined components.
  • Ability to read and understand of ALSTOM technical drawings, systems, and procedures.
  • Proficiency with measuring instruments.
  • Excellent communication skills.
  • Conversant with Microsoft Office, SAP database.
  • Team player.
  • Proactive approach.
  • Problem solving techniques.
Desirable:
  • Practical knowledge of manufacturing techniques and their relationship to quality systems such as those defined in ISO: -9001-2015
  • Knowledge and experience of railway industry (norms, certificationsxe2x80xa6) would be an asset.
  • Alstom specific process and product knowledge.
  • Experience in Quality / Auditing.
