Job Description

Motor Technician:
Diagnostic Work

• Advanced Diagnostics: Identify complex mechanical, electrical, and electronic issues using diagnostic equipment and experience. This often includes problems with engines, transmissions, suspension systems, and electrical systems
• Test Drive Vehicles: Perform road tests to replicate customer complaints and identify issues that cannot be spotted during static diagnostics
• Utilize Specialized Tools: Use high-tech diagnostic tools, software, and scanners to troubleshoot and assess vehicle systems

Vehicle Repairs and Maintenance

• Routine Maintenance: Perform oil changes, tire rotations, brake checks, and other regular maintenance on vehicles
• Engine and Transmission Work: Carry out more advanced engine repairs and replacements, including transmissions, timing belts, fuel systems, and cooling systems
• Electrical and Electronics Repair: Diagnose and repair issues with car electronics, including sensors, airbags, alternators, and lighting systems
• Suspension and Steering Repairs: Fix or replace components in suspension systems, shock absorbers, and steering mechanisms

Supervision and Mentoring

• Training Junior Technicians: Provide guidance and support to junior or apprentice technicians, ensuring that they adhere to the workshop's procedures and standards
• Task Delegation: Assign tasks to junior technicians based on their skill levels, ensuring that the workload is balanced
• Quality Control: Inspect and review completed work to ensure it meets safety, quality, and company standards
• Problem-Solving: Assist junior technicians with complex repair scenarios and provide solutions to problems they may encounter

Customer Interaction

• Communicate with Customers: Discuss repair needs and vehicle issues with customers, explain findings, and suggest appropriate solutions
• Provide Estimates: Offer cost and time estimates for repairs, keeping the customer informed about the work required and its potential impact on the vehicle's performance
• Follow-Up on Services: Follow up with customers after services to ensure satisfaction and address any remaining concerns

Technical Documentation

• Document Repairs and Services: Maintain accurate records of vehicle services, repairs, and parts replaced in compliance with company policies and legal requirements
• Service Reports: Generate detailed reports and service logs for customers and management
• Update Service Procedures: Keep up to date with technical service bulletins (TSBs) and recall notices, ensuring that vehicles are repaired in line with manufacturer guidelines

Inventory Management

• Parts Ordering: Ensure that parts are ordered and available for repairs, working with suppliers and managing parts inventory
• Stock Management: Maintain an organized workshop and inventory system, ensuring tools and equipment are readily available for repairs

Health and Safety Compliance

• Workplace Safety: Adhere to safety protocols and regulations, ensuring a safe working environment for themselves and others in the workshop
• Environmental Responsibility: Properly dispose of hazardous materials like used oil, coolant, or battery waste in compliance with local environmental regulations

Vehicle Inspections

• MOT/Vehicle Inspection: Depending on location, the senior technician might be involved in conducting vehicle safety inspections, ensuring that the vehicles meet required standards
• Pre-purchase Inspections: Perform comprehensive vehicle inspections for customers looking to buy used cars

Continuous Learning and Development

• Stay Updated with Technology: Keep up with the latest automotive technologies, repair techniques, and industry trends, including electric vehicles (EVs) and hybrid systems
• Certifications and Training: Participate in relevant courses and certifications to maintain and expand technical knowledge

Requirements / Qualification / Skills for Motor Vehicle Technician:

• Qualified Red Seal Technician
• Minimum of 3-5 years in a dealership environment as a Motor Technician
• Strong demand of English and French
• Strong technical knowledge of various vehicle makes and models
• Expertise in vehicle electrical systems, engines, and transmissions
• Ability to work with diagnostic equipment and software
• Good communication and customer service skills
• Organizational and leadership abilities
• Strong attention to detail, especially in complex repairs
• Ability to mentor and teach less experienced staff
• Motor Vehicle Dealership Experience Essential!!
• Valid passport and driver's license
• Able to travel at short notice for a set period

Auto Electrician:
Electrical Knowledge

• Deep understanding of vehicle electrical systems, including wiring diagrams, circuit boards, sensors, and control units
• Knowledge of how different electrical systems interact within a vehicle (lighting, air conditioning, infotainment, etc.)

Diagnostic Skills

• Ability to use diagnostic tools (e.g., scan tools, voltmeters, oscilloscopes) to identify electrical issues and troubleshoot problems efficiently
• Skilled in interpreting diagnostic codes and reports from onboard vehicle computers and diagnostic systems

Soldering and Wiring

• Proficient in soldering electrical components and properly wiring new systems, connections, or repairs
• Ability to work with complex wiring systems, ensuring all connections are secure and insulated

Problem-Solving

• Strong analytical and problem-solving skills to quickly identify faults and come up with efficient repair solutions
• Ability to think critically and prioritize repairs based on safety and urgency

Attention to Detail

• Precision in work to avoid mistakes that could cause long-term damage or safety risks
• Focus on safety protocols when dealing with high-voltage systems, especially in electric or hybrid vehicles

Understanding of Electrical Schematics

• Ability to read and interpret complex electrical schematics and circuit diagrams
• Understand how to map out the flow of electrical power through various components of the vehicle

Vehicle-Specific System Knowledge

• In-depth knowledge of various vehicle electrical systems, including but not limited to:

• Ignition and charging systems
• Engine control units (ECUs)
• Lighting and signalling systems
• Air conditioning (HVAC) systems
• Battery and alternator systems
• Electric power steering

HVAC System Expertise

• Knowledge in diagnosing and repairing electrical issues related to the vehicle's heating, ventilation, and air conditioning (HVAC) systems

Safety Awareness

• Knowledge of the safety precautions and regulations when working with electrical components, especially in high-voltage systems
• Awareness of the importance of grounding, fuses, and circuit protection

Communication Skills

• Ability to clearly explain technical issues and solutions to customers, especially non-technical clients
• Strong written and verbal communication for reporting and record-keeping

Skills & Requirements for Auto Electrician:

• Automotive Electrician Certification
• Minimum of 3-5 years in a dealership environment as a Motor Technician
• Strong demand of English and French
• Experience in diagnosing and repairing automotive electrical systems
• Familiarity with newer vehicle technologies such as hybrids, electric vehicles (EVs), and advanced driver-assistance systems (ADAS) can be a significant advantage
• Familiarity with the latest in vehicle technology, such as Electric Vehicle (EV) systems, including charging circuits and power management, Hybrid vehicle systems and their integration with the vehicle's mechanical components, Advanced infotainment systems, sensors, cameras, and driver assistance technologies (e.g., adaptive cruise control, lane-keeping assist)
• Proficient in using various tools, including multi-meters, oscilloscopes, and other diagnostic equipment. Hand tools for removing panels, wiring, and connectors. Specialized equipment for EV battery systems or airbag systems (depending on the specialization)
• Software Proficiency; Computer-based diagnostic software and systems provided by vehicle manufacturers (e.g., OBD II software, or brand-specific systems like VAG-COM for VW/Audi)
• Good communication and customer service skills
• Organizational and leadership abilities
• Strong attention to detail, especially in complex repairs
• Ability to mentor and teach less experienced staff
