The institution is dedicated to instilling a deep respect for one's own culture and fostering an appreciation for diverse cultures.Overall purpose of the internshipThe purpose of a psychology internship, as outlined by the Health Professions Council of South Africa (HPCSA), is to provide aspiring psychologists with comprehensive, supervised practical experience, ensuring they gain the necessary skills, knowledge, and competencies to practice independently and ethically. The internship design is aligned with the objectives of the HPCSA to ensure professional readiness and adherence to high standards of practice.Through the employment of interns, we seek to:

  • Increase student awareness and understanding of mental health and wellness through the provision of coping skills, self-management techniques, resilience building in the context of academics.
  • Enhance student engagement and community connectedness in the learning environment to promote a culture of care, compassion and success.
Responsibilities
  • Provide counselling services to learners.
  • Conduct psychoeducational assessments.
  • Assist with crisis management for students in need of support.
  • Engage with the school-based support team to ensure students' progress with the relevant support and interventions.
  • Assist in coordinating and presenting workshops that promote mental health.
  • Maintain case history records and prepare reports and stats monthly.
  • Attend supervision and case conferences.
  • Holiday Programme Participation
Skills and Competency required
  • Ability to use psychological models and practices to enhance the emotional skills of the students.
  • Strong interpersonal skills and the ability to build relationships with a wide range of stakeholders, including students, colleagues, and parents.
  • Strong ethical principles.
  • Ongoing professional development through arranged training.
  • Effective time management and administrative skills.
  • A positive attitude and approach to change and development, with a growth mindset.
Minimum Requirements (Applications that do not meet these will not be considered):
  • Completion of a Master's degree in Psychology (Counselling or Educational) from a recognized and accredited institution.
  • Eligibility for registration as a Psychologist Intern with the Health Professions Council of South Africa (HPCSA) under the relevant category (Counselling or Educational).
  • Proof of HPCSA eligibility letter or current intern registration will be required.
