PROJECT CO-ORDINATOR (One full time position, one-year contract) The Mental Health, Alcohol, Substance Use and Tobacco Research Unit is looking for an experienced, energetic, and organized project co-ordinator to work on the existing Couples Health CoOp Plus (CHC+), a large randomized controlled trial working with young couples who use substances to provide them with biobehavioural interventions linked to HIV. The successful candidate will have experience in working on large, complex trials that encompass evidence-based interventions and include biological aspects around HIV treatment (or treatment as prevention). They will be responsible for co-ordinating all aspects of the research study including daily management of project staff, daily and weekly planning of study activities, establishing relationships with health care clinics, overseeing stigma reduction training in the community, quality assurance of data, and as needed, some community outreach and marketing, screening for eligibility, consenting, conducting biologicals, and linking participants to necessary services. The successful candidate will be based at the MASTRU Delft site but will be expected to work within a number of surrounding communities. Other responsibilities include regular communication with the study investigators, administrative oversight of tasks such ordering of supplies and managing resources. Responsibilities:

  • Establishing relationships with stakeholders such as healthcare clinic staff
  • Quality assurance of data
  • Staff supervision
  • Planning (daily, weekly, monthly) and managerial tasks
  • Administrative tasks and oversight
  • Stigma reduction training and intervention delivery as required
  • Recruitment and tracking of participants as needed
  • Completion of consent and study interviews as needed
Core Requirements:
  • Four-year tertiary qualification/honours degree in Public Health or social sciences
  • 3 or more years of research experience working with substance use, gender, and HIV work (including delivery of evidence based biobehavioural interventions).
  • 2 yearsxe2x80x99 experience with administrative duties of research studies.
  • Previous experience in project management or supervisory roles in conducting interventions and other fieldwork activities for community-based research projects particularly on HIV prevention/treatment and substance use in the community.
  • Experience with staff supervision/training
  • Speak fluent English AND isiXhosa/Afrikaans (preferably some level of both isiXhosa and Afrikaans)
  • Have a valid South African driverxe2x80x99s license with current driving experience.
  • Be comfortable working with participants who use substances
  • Familiarity with communities in Cape Town area
