-We have an exciting opportunity for a Project Advisor. The purpose of this role is to Support the entire project lifecycle (registration to close-out) and coordinate the various departments and cross functions involved in operational project execution.

Kumba Iron Ore



We produce high-grade iron ore, the key component in steel widely used in construction and manufacturing across the world. Our activities include all aspects - exploration; mining; processing and blending; shipping; marketing and selling. In South Africa, we have mining operations in the Northern Cape province, as well as a head office in Centurion, Gauteng, and a port operation in Saldanha Bay, Western Cape.





-As our Projects Advisor of your responsibilities will include but not limited to:


Support good housekeeping in the broader department and on-site. + Participate in safety initiatives (e.g. VFLs) as required.
Performance and Delivery + Assist and support line management in project selection and scoping (front-end loading) to align with departmental and organisational strategies.
+ Review and drive optimisation opportunities regarding project scope and cost before a project is registered.
+ Provide operational project managers with training (both formal and informal) on project management, the ADM process, Anglo American Project Requirements, and site-specific requirements, standards, and procedures.
+ Provide individual coaching and mentoring to new project managers and line management to explain their roles and responsibilities in project execution.
+ Develop new and optimise existing systems and procedures to align with company DAF and project work procedures.
+ Coordinate and facilitate kick-off sessions (gate 0 and gate 3) of new projects to formulate execution and procurement strategies.
+ Ensure the best fit-for-purpose solutions regarding technical compliance (technical reviews), business cases and critical risks.
+ Provide quality assurance concerning documentation, reporting, and compliance with standards.
+ Report and facilitate feedback sessions between project managers and owners' teams.
+ Ensure adherence to governance regarding procurement, tender evaluation, adjudication, and order placement.
+ Demonstrate optimised project cost and scope on operational projects during the registration phase.
+ Strong stakeholder management between cross-functional departments - Portfolio, Project office, SIB engineering and relevant operational sections to ensure project delivery.
+ Ensure adherence to standards and procedures (SHE) during project execution through relevant sections and departments.
+ Drive and assist in project closure and capitalisation of assets upon project completion.
+ Monitor and track project progress to ensure project delivery and adherence to scope, cost, timeline, and quality.
+ Monthly updates and feedback sessions related to relevant operational projects.
Outputs: Structured operational portfolio, which aligns with departmental and operational strategies. Trained project managers either through a formal training process or informal training. Trained project managers must understand the project management process, ADM process and APW requirements and standards. Project managers and line managers who understand their role and responsibility in the various aspects of project execution through the mentoring process. Optimised and efficient systems and procedures to align with company DAF and project work procedures. Well-structured and facilitated kick-off sessions (gate 0 and gate 3) with all new projects to formulate execution and procurement strategies. Fit-for-purpose solutions regarding technical compliance (technical reviews), business cases and critical risks. Provide quality assurance concerning documentation, reporting, and compliance with standards. Report and facilitate feedback sessions between project managers and owners' teams. Compliance and adherence to governance regarding procurement, tender evaluation, adjudication, and order placement. Successful stakeholder management between cross-functional departments--portfolio, Project office, SIB engineering, and relevant operational sections--to ensure project delivery. Compliance with standards and procedures (SHE) during project execution through relevant sections and departments. Closed out projects and capitalised assets upon project completion. Tracked and monitored project progress to ensure project delivery and adherence to scope, cost, timeline, and quality. Successful monthly updates and feedback sessions related to relevant operational projects.

This role is in Engineering & Maintenance (E&M) department on a band 6 (D1) level reporting to the Section Manager Projects





Qualifications

-National Diploma in Project Management or any of the technical fields (Mechanical, Civil or Electrical (NQF6) Degree in Project Management or any of the technical fields (Mechanical, Civil or Electrical) Advantageous SA Drivers Licence
Technical


3-5 years of relevant experience in project management in an advisory capacity. Advanced knowledge of Project Management. Advanced knowledge of mining (preferably open pit), processing or engineering industry. Advanced knowledge of key value drivers across the mining value chain and the interdependence therein. Advanced computer literacy (MS Office, Projects, Outlook, Word, Excel, PowerPoint, MS Projects). Foundational knowledge of ISO 21500 project management guidelines and a high-level project management framework. Foundational skills in using financial metrics, cost, value management and budgeting tools. Foundational skills in identifying and implementing business improvement opportunities and projects at mines. Competent in strategy implementation and business planning. Competent with the application of change management methodologies. Competent in written and verbal communication.
