The Programme Coordinator Role

The Determined, Resilient, Empowered, Aids-free, Mentored and Safe (DREAMS) programme provides a comprehensive package of core interventions to address key factors that make adolescent girls and young women (AGYW) particularly vulnerable to HIV. These include structural factors, such as gender-based violence, exclusion from economic opportunities, and a lack of access to secondary school. DREAMS layers multiple interventions at once so that AGYW are surrounded with critical support to keep them safe from HIV and other risks.

The Programme Coordinator position will support and deliver on NACOSAxe2x80x99s USAID funded Community-based Violence Prevention and Linkages to Response in SA Programme. This HIV and GBV Prevention Programme focuses on delivering evidence-based group interventions to adolescent girls and young women and adolescent boys and young men (aged 15-19 and 20-24years). It further focuses on linkages and layering to secondary interventions services such as post violence care services to survivors who disclose, sexual reproductive health services, family strengthening and economic strengthening interventions.

Programme Coordinators will support the implementation of the No Means No Self-defense intervention, Sexual Reproductive Health, Financial Literacy, linkages and layering as well as mentoring intervention in 6 Health Sub-Districts of the Cape Metro

The duties and responsibilities of the Programme Coordinator will include, but not limited to:

  • Performance management on a day-to-day basis, including guidance and support of implementation staff to meet weekly targets in terms of recruitment, enrolment and completion of GBV prevention group-based interventions
  • Managing and tracking of daily staff attendance, leave monitoring and ensuring accurate submission of monthly time sheets by staff.
  • Conduct weekly, monthly, quarterly planning and microplanning with facilitators to ensure daily activities implemented are geared towards meeting of targets.
  • Developing contingency plans and utilizing problem solving to overcome day to day challenges.
  • Develop Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) to support the smooth implementation of evidence- based group interventions.
  • Provide training and mentoring support to ensure capacity is built within the teams.
  • Develop tools to ensure bi-directional referral pathways for successful linkages for DREAMS AGYW to health, education and social support services.
  • Engage fellow DREAMS partners on co-location and micro-planning of services to ensure successful referral of all eligible AGYW to relevant DREAMS partner services.
  • Work closely with the M&E team to refine and build on the suite of M&E tools in place so as to ensure the monitoring tools are fit for purpose.
  • Facilitate quality assurance activities of data and interventions ensuring data quality and intervention fidelity is upheld.
Required qualifications, skills and experience
  • Post Matric Qualification in Social Science/Public Health or related discipline.
  • Minimum of 3 yearsxe2x80x99 related work experience in leading direct implementation teams in a target driven programme (specific experience is required in implementation planning, logistical support functions, monitoring and evaluation).
  • Well established community/stakeholder relationship building track record/ability to network and navigate communities.
  • Knowledge of HIV prevention, sexual and reproductive health; HIV Testing Services; Gender Based Violence (GBV) programming; evidence-informed and rights-based programming for survivors of GBV, particularly for adolescent girls and young women.
  • Excellent computer skills (Word, Excel, PowerPoint) with experience of web-based data systems
  • Understanding of the NGO sector and knowledge of big donor processes/requirements will be advantageous.
  • Excellent communications skills in English and any other South African Language.
  • Driverxe2x80x99s license non-negotiable.
