Job Description


The Africa Health Research Institute (AHRI) is recruiting a Professional Research Nurse. The Professional Research Nurse will be responsible for working on interventions under the HIV prevention programme including the PrEP study, this include delivering sexual and reproductive health and antiretroviral based HIV prevention, screening of TB, condom promotion distribution and referrals into other relevant facilities within the KZN province. This will be done under the guidance of the PI, project manager, and project Coordinator.

Overview of Duties * To actively participate and supervise the screening, recruitment, enrolling, completion of sample collection, data collection and clinical management of study participants for different HIV prevention programme studies.

  • Implementation of HIV prevention programme studies protocols.
  • Supervision of clinic research assistants and administration of collected data.
  • Collection of specimens from research participants.
  • Work in a multidisciplinary team and with DOH Staff to ensure good partnership between AHRI and DOH.
  • Carry out any other Duties as directed by the line manager.
Minimum Qualifications * Diploma or Degree in Nursing.
  • Current registration with SANC as a Professional Nurse.
  • Valid driverxe2x80x99s license with a minimum of 2-years driving experience.
  • Computer Literacy (MS Office xe2x80x93 Word, Excel & PowerPoint).
  • Fluency in English and Zulu.
  • Dispensing certificate/completed the course.
Minimum Experience * A minimum of 5 years recognizable nursing experience after registration as professional nurse with SANC, of which at least 2 years must be appropriate/recognizable experience working in a Primary Health Care clinic.
  • NIMART trained.
  • PMTCT and/ or ART experience.
  • Experience working with Adolescents and young people and/or Adolescent Youth Friendly services.
  • Knowledge of and/or experience of Pre-exposure prophylaxis (PrEP).
  • Phlebotomy experience.
  • Experience in staff supervision.
  • Familiarity with data collection and capturing in a research environment.
Skills Required * Must be able to work under pressure.
  • Good verbal and written communication skills in English.
  • Accuracy and precision.
