As a dedicated Professional Nurse specialising in Voluntary Medical Male Circumcision (VMMC), your role will be pivotal in delivering safe and high-quality VMMC services to our clients. Duties and Responsibilities include but not limited to:

  • Provide comprehensive client education on VMMC and HIV, ensuring clients have a clear understanding of the procedures and related health information.
  • Obtain detailed medical histories and conduct thorough physical examinations of clients, ensuring a comprehensive understanding of their health status.
  • Ensure informed consent is obtained from clients or their parent/guardian before VMMC procedures, explaining the risks and benefits thoroughly.
  • Prepare clients and the surgical theater for VMMC procedures, including administering local anesthesia, performing sutures, and dressing wounds as required.
  • Supervise Enrolled Nurses and Counsellors, providing guidance and support as a vital member of the healthcare team.
  • Monitor and restock supplies, decontaminate instruments and equipment, and oversee autoclaving processes to maintain a sterile environment.
  • Provide attentive postoperative care and reinforce essential postoperative messages to clients, ensuring their optimal recovery.
  • Complete operation notes and other client record forms accurately and comprehensively, maintaining precise documentation for future reference.
  • Conduct Day 2 and Day 7 follow-up visits with clients to monitor their recovery progress and address any concerns promptly.
  • Foster a positive work environment that encourages growth, collaboration, and teamwork.
Requirements:
  • Relevant Diploma or Degree in Nursing and registration with SANC.
  • Completion of training and substantial experience in a surgical and/or clinical setting, demonstrating expertise in medical procedures and patient care.
  • Completion of training and experience as a Certified HIV Counselor, indicating a comprehensive understanding of HIV-related counseling and support.
  • Preferred experience in training clinical staff, highlighting leadership abilities and expertise in sharing knowledge and skills.
  • Ability to provide VMMC preoperative, inter-operative, and postoperative management, showcasing expertise in the entire surgical process.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, ensuring clear and effective communication within the team and with clients.
