The Western Cape Blood Service is a non-profit organisation whose mission is to collect, process and distribute blood products of the highest standards in the Western Cape.
A permanent vacancy exists for a Professional Nurse (SD)
General - Medical Department (Grade C2)
Purpose of the Job
- Participation in all administrative, clinical and data collection responsibilities for the Specialised Donations Department (SDD), which encompasses therapeutic donations, designated donations and look-back procedures.
- Counselling of donors found positive for HIV and Hepatitis B & C.
- Communication with high-risk resigned donors.
- Active and regular assistance in the Staff Health and Cell Separation Departments.
- Staff and student education regarding SDD functions.
- Matriculation Certificate
- Diploma in Nursing Science
- Registration with the South African Nursing Council
- A Code 8 driver's licence without endorsements would be an added advantage
- Multi-lingual
- 3 years post nursing qualification
- Venepuncture/phlebotomy experience is essential
- Previous blood transfusion experience (significant advantage)
- Computer literate
- Counselling skill (added advantage)
- Good interpersonal skills and a friendly disposition
- Punctuality
- Accuracy in data collection
- Must be able to work as part of a team
- Must be able to cope in a high stress environment and be able to 'trouble-shoot'
- Skilled in customer services and the ability to deal with the public
- Must be willing to work after-hours
