Provide palliative care nursing to patients with life-threatening illnesses who require treatment and support throughout the continuum of care
Location:
Charlotte Maxeke Johannesburg Academic Hospital - Parktown, Johannesburg
Key performance areas:
Undertake comprehensive patient assessment to include physical, psychological, social, and spiritual elements of care
Provide clinical services to patients diagnosed with life-threatening/life-limiting illnesses
Use the outcomes of patient assessment to develop and implement plans of care in conjunction with the multi-disciplinary team (MDT), the patient, and the family as appropriate
Monitor and evaluate the patient's response to treatment and amend the plan of care according to the prescribed protocols
Educate cancer patients and their families about available treatment options and procedures related to the disease
Upload patient data on the RedCap electronic database
Required minimum education and training:
Diploma in General Nursing
Registration with the South African Nursing Council (SANC)
Required minimum work experience:
Minimum of two (2) years experience in palliative care nursing
Desirable additional education, work experience, and personal abilities:
Basic knowledge and application of palliative care principles for cancer patients would be an advantage
Systematic with strict compliance to protocols
The ability to work with patients who are diagnosed with life-threatening illnesses
Good administrative skills together with Microsoft Office skills
Able to work under pressure and adhere to deadlines
Self-motivated, able to work independently and as part of a multidisciplinary team
