Job Description

Main purpose of the job:

• Provide palliative care nursing to patients with life-threatening illnesses who require treatment and support throughout the continuum of care

Location:

• Charlotte Maxeke Johannesburg Academic Hospital xe2x80x93 Parktown, Johannesburg

Key performance areas:

• Undertake comprehensive patient assessment to include physical, psychological, social, and spiritual elements of care
• Provide clinical services to patients diagnosed with life-threatening/life-limiting illnesses
• Use the outcomes of patient assessment to develop and implement plans of care in conjunction with the multi-disciplinary team (MDT), the patient, and the family as appropriate
• Monitor and evaluate the patientxe2x80x99s response to treatment and amend the plan of care according to the prescribed protocols
• Educate cancer patients and their families about available treatment options and procedures related to the disease
• Upload patient data on the RedCap electronic database

Required minimum education and training:

• Diploma in General Nursing
• Registration with the South African Nursing Council (SANC)

Required minimum work experience:

• Minimum of two (2) years experience in palliative care nursing

Desirable additional education, work experience, and personal abilities:

• Basic knowledge and application of palliative care principles for cancer patients would be an advantage
• Systematic with strict compliance to protocols
• The ability to work with patients who are diagnosed with life-threatening illnesses
• Good administrative skills together with Microsoft Office skills
• Able to work under pressure and adhere to deadlines
• Self-motivated, able to work independently and as part of a multidisciplinary team
