Headwear24 CMT (Pty) Ltd, a subsidiary of Africa's largest headwear manufacturer, is seeking the services of an experienced and competent production line supervisor to lead its bucket hat line at its Hammarsdale factory. Overall Job Purpose: Supervises and coordinates activities of workers engaged in sewing, inspecting and finishing garments on the production line. Key Duties
- Maintaining discipline on the shop floor - starting on time, ensuring machines are started up and shut down when required, maintain acceptable housekeeping standards.
- Collect a sample of the style that is going to be loaded on the production line.
- Setting the line up for sustained productivity by putting the right people in place for each operation.
- Ensure the correct machines and equipment for each operation is in place and operating optimally.
- Balancing the line by leveling the workload throughout the production line to improve resouce utilisation.
- Train, motivate and guide and instruct operators to achieve required production targets and standards. Trains operators in assembly of new styles of garments and demonstrates sewing techniques to train new operators.
- Ensure target quantities are achieved hourly and daily.
- Notify the mechanic when machines malfunction.
- Inspects work produced by operators to ensure conformance to company standards and customers' specifications.
- Ensures that all cut work and trims are supplied on time to the line.
- Ensures that the next product to go on the production line is checked and all paperwork is ready.
- Minimum level of education - Grade 10 or equivalent
- Experience in operating a range of sewing machines, such as flat machine, high-post machine, single and double-needle machines.
- Demontrable competence in a range of sewing operations.
- Meticulous with a high level of attention to detail.
- Excellent time management
- Excellent eyesight or utilisation of corrective measures
- Self-starter with the ability to manage own time and activities effectively
- Able to operate effectively as part of a team and display team values
