Job Description


We are seeking a dynamic and experienced Procurement Manager to join our team in Paarl. The ideal candidate will play a pivotal role in sourcing and procuring table grapes from local producers and farmers. The Procurement Manager will need to leverage their established relationships and industry expertise to ensure a consistent and high-quality supply of table grapes for export.

Key Responsibilities:

Supplier Relationship Management:

  • Cultivate and maintain strong relationships with local table grape producers and farmers.
  • Negotiate contracts, pricing, and terms with suppliers to secure a stable supply chain.
Sourcing and Procurement:
  • Identify and evaluate potential suppliers, ensuring they meet quality and compliance standards.
  • Continuously assess market conditions, trends, and pricing to make informed procurement decisions.
  • Collaborate with the production team to align procurement with demand forecasts.
Quality Assurance:
  • Implement and oversee quality control measures to ensure the highest standards of table grapes.
  • Conduct regular inspections and quality checks at supplier locations.
Cost Management:
  • Monitor and manage procurement budgets, aiming for cost-effective procurement strategies.
  • Identify opportunities for cost reduction and efficiency improvements.
Compliance and Sustainability:
  • Ensure compliance with all relevant regulations and certifications in the fruit export industry.
  • Promote sustainable and environmentally responsible procurement practices.
Reporting and Analysis:
  • Prepare regular reports on procurement activities, supplier performance, and market trends.
  • Analyze data to identify opportunities for process improvement and optimization.
Qualifications:
  • Bachelor's degree in Agriculture, Business Administration, or a related field (MBA or relevant postgraduate qualification is a plus).
  • Proven experience (5+ years) in procurement or sourcing, with a focus on table grapes or similar fruits.
  • Established network and relationships within the South African fruit farming community.
  • Strong negotiation and communication skills.
  • Knowledge of quality control and compliance standards in the fruit export industry.
  • Proficiency in relevant software and tools for data analysis.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
  • Excellent organizational and time management skills.
Salary: Market Related
