SENIOR PORTFOLIO MANAGER
We are looking for a skilled professional Deal Originator to manage origination and implementation of structured trade transactions for the fund whilst also exploring new transactions for new funds launched.
The incumbent will be responsible for the following key performance areas:

  • Deal with investors as requested by the Fund and Investment Committee
  • Accompany investor to respective borrowers for site visit for DD purposes.
  • Relevant travel arrangements for site visits.
  • Feedback to Investment Committee following site visit.
  • Discuss borrowers with Investor ensuring comprehensive understanding of investment.
  • Source/Originate transactions for the various funds to grow the respective investment pools and opportunities.
  • Source investment opportunities that fit within the respective funds' investment mandates.
  • Recognise new opportunities, take appropriate action and initiate required communication with
  • Unlock trade opportunities by utilising personal and Barak networks to extend investment opportunities & borrowers.
  • Subsequent to identification of opportunity, analyse opportunity based on country, commodity, company and yield. Compile investment thesis & present weekly to investment committee.
  • Negotiate terms & conditions with respective borrower.
  • Consult with investors as required & provide all necessary feedback.
  • Implement transactions for the fund.
  • Arrange meetings with legal re term sheet as concluded from investment committee meeting, converting to legal framework in preparation for borrower's signature.
  • Confirm all regulatory and compliance checks are done thereby ensuring legal framework is feasible for borrower and fund.
  • Partner with Facilitators re the operational administration as deal goes live.
  • Regular liaison with Facilitators ensuring continuity of service, identification of potential risks and repayment ito set terms & conditions.
  • Manage costs and budgeted goals.
  • Contain costs within budgeted limits agreed in advance of the financial year.
  • Manage costs of each project keeping costs relevant, realistic and valuable.
  • Ensure the Investment Committee is aware of any noticeable or expected material variances to agreed original budget.
  • Follow correct process when contracting any new or recurring services. Ensure relevant authorization is obtained in advance incl. costs for travel, entertainment, legal, professional, information, news services and subscriptions.
Requirements:
  • Qualifications:
  • Degree: Financial/Business Management, BCom or MBA preferred
  • Key Criteria:
  • Trade Finance/Structured Trade Finance/Working Capital Finance/Supply Chain Finance Experience
  • Corporate / SME Credit Analyst
  • Africa Experience
  • Essential Experience (10-12 years):
  • 5 years in the Financial Sector
  • 2 years Banking/Investment Administration
  • 3 years proficient advanced Microsoft Excel & Word
  • 2 years working with legal agreements
  • Knowledge:
  • FAIS Act - preferred
  • FAIS Compliant (Annual) - preferred
  • Essential Skills:
  • Excellent written & verbal communication
  • Maintains long-term relationships.
  • Skilled at networking & connecting.
  • Compliance
  • Top-level planning & organizing.
  • Travel:
  • Must be comfortable with regular monthly travel into Africa
