To maximise Port-to-DC logistical efficiency and effectiveness by coordinating delivery orders (DROs), managing container flow and turnaround, resolving operational issues (e.g., telex, grounded containers), and ensuring accurate final container costing.
QUALIFICATION/EXPERIENCE:
Matric
Relevant Diploma in Supply Chain and/or Logistics
5+ years work experience in at least 2 of the following Logistics activities: Operations, Transport, Warehousing, Forwarding & Clearing
3-5 years experience in working with multiple clients and service providers
Proven experience in coordination, planning and execution of logistics activities
Knowledge of shipping and freight forwarding processes
Understanding of contract management
Advanced MS Office Skills, particularly Excel and Google Workspace
Ability to prioritise tasks and work efficiently under pressure
Negotiation Skills (advantageous)
Proficiency in logistics management software (advantageous)
RESPONSIBILITIES:
Management of Delivery Receipt Orders (DRO's)
Monitor DROs received from DSV and record dates of issue.
Ensure DROs issued indicate correct vessel name, transporter, container size, have valid dates, and reflect turn-in depot.
Ensure DROs are valid for a minimum of 2 days for port upliftments and 1 day for depot upliftments to allow sufficient upliftment time.
Ensure transshipped containers have the correct information updated on the DRO.
Escalate DROs that are not issued within 48 hours of the vessel ETA.
Management of Turn-In's
Monitor and ensure that containers are turned in according to the number of free days outlined by the shipping line.
Compile a priority list of turn-ins for the transporter to action.
Arrange alternate turn-in solutions when turn-in depots are full.
Management of Grounded Containers
Arrange the grounding of full and empty containers based on trailer capacity and DC shift requirements.
Arrange alternate container storage (e.g., SACD) when the DC has reached its storage capacity.
Telex Issue Management
Ensure that containers on the CW report from DSV with pending Telex issues are flagged and not uplifted by the transporter.
Ensure that DROs issued by DSV are still valid after containers are Telex released on the CW report.
Request updated DROs from DSV for DROs that expired or are about to expire after being Telex released.
Final Costing
Liaise with the finance team for the final costing of containers
Vessel & Container Management to Port
Track each container individually on Navis to establish whether containers are stacked, and monitor date of discharge
Ensure containers that are timeously assigned get uplifted from port before last free day
Monitor bulk checks from transporter (issued by Transnet) to establish which containers are assigned
Escalate unassigned containers to DSV
Monitor and record changes in dates as per the Transnet website (vessel arrival, vessel completion, vessel berthing (ETA), etc.)
Monitor last free upliftment days and extensions due to port issues, inclement weather, etc.
Container Management at Depots
Liaise with the SACD team regarding incoming and outgoing containers from the depot
Arrange releases for depot containers to be uplifted and delivered to the DC
Rail Containers
Monitor the availability of rail containers coming into Cato Ridge/Hammarsdale
Arrange releases for rail containers to be uplifted and delivered to the DC
On-site Management
Ensure an on-site supervisor and shunter is available to assist with container movements
Ensure all planned containers are placed at DC allocated doors prior to start of shift
Ensure PODs are handed in for all planned containers
Ensure the transporter adheres to all protocols and procedures on site
Container & Shift Planning
Plan import shifts around local planned deliveries
Establish a daily shift plan in line with both DC and head office requirements
Plan and arrange Cape Town deliveries for re-routed containers
Ensure promo containers are prioritised
Ensure linked containers are planned together
Ensure upcoming into DC dates are prioritised ahead of later dates
Ensure planned containers are final costed
Ensure the number of cartons and units are aligned with the DCs daily capacity
Ensure planned containers do not have pending Telex issues listed on the CW report
Ensure DROs and releases are in order for planned containers
Ensure rework is balanced when planning, provided it does not impact promo and upcoming into DC dates
Plan Execution
Establish carryovers from night shift and amend the day shift plan to accommodate them
Ensure all planned containers were uplifted/delivered for the upcoming shift
Update the DC on any delays/issues with planned containers
Arrange substitutes for planned containers that are delayed, have issues with releases/documents or are missing linked pairs
