Job Description

We are seeking a skilled and certified Plumber/Solar Installer to join our team in Cape Town. The ideal candidate will handle a range of plumbing tasks, with a focus on solar water heating systems, geyser installations, and maintenance. You must be able to plumb geysers in full compliance with South African National Standards (SANS), particularly SANS 10254 and SANS 10252-1. Knowledge of Geyserwise systems, Easiwise (or similar control systems), and thermosiphon solar technology is required but not critical - we value hands-on experience and a willingness to learn.

This role involves working on residential, commercial, and insurance-related projects, ensuring high-quality installations that promote energy efficiency and safety. Key Responsibilities

Install, repair, and maintain plumbing systems, including geysers, and related equipment in residential and commercial settings. Perform geyser plumbing and installations strictly according to SANS requirements, including fitting correct pipe connections, pressure control valves, vacuum breakers, drip trays, and ensuring balanced pressure systems to prevent system failures or hazards. Install and service solar water heating systems, such as thermosiphon solar setups, heat pumps, and PV-integrated solutions. Handle insurance-related plumbing and solar work, including assessments and compliance certifications. Collaborate with teams on renewable energy projects, focusing on energy-efficient solutions like solar geysers. Provide excellent customer service, explaining installations and maintenance to clients. Adhere to health and safety protocols, including working at heights for solar panel and geyser placements.
Required Qualifications and Skills

Trade-tested and qualified plumber (e.g., Red Seal certification or equivalent from a recognized institution). At least 3-5 years of experience in plumbing, with proven expertise in geyser installations and solar/heat pump systems. Strong knowledge of SANS 10254 (installation, replacement, and repair of hot water systems) and SANS 10252-1 (water supply and drainage for buildings). Familiarity with Geyserwise electronic thermostats, controllers, and PV water heating systems. Basic understanding of Easiwise or similar geyser management systems (if applicable; experience with comparable brands like Kwikot or equivalent is a plus). Knowledge of thermosiphon solar systems (passive solar water heating) - preferred but not essential; training can be provided. Valid driver's license Physical fitness to handle manual labor, including lifting equipment and working in confined spaces or at heights. Basic electrical knowledge for integrating solar systems (e.g., wiring thermostats). Proficiency in using plumbing tools, diagnostic equipment, and safety gear.
Preferred Additional Skills

Experience with PV solar panels, inverters, and integration with geyser systems for off-grid or hybrid setups. Skills in heat pump installations and maintenance, as these often complement solar geysers. Knowledge of local Cape Town by-laws and environmental regulations for water and energy systems. Customer-facing experience, including quoting, invoicing, and fault-finding. Basic computer skills for reporting and using apps for job tracking. Commitment to ongoing training in emerging technologies, such as smart geyser controls or IoT-integrated systems.
