The Early Learning Resource Unit (ELRU) is a provincial NGO within the Early Childhood Development (ECD) sector. ELRU's vision is to give every child in South Africa a good start in life, through the provision of holistic support to the child, by enabling access to an integrated package of quality ECD services.
Position Overview
To assist in the implementation of the "Caregiver Learning Through Play 2.0" initiative in the communities ELRU serves, working with caregivers to create opportunities for children, ages 0-6, to learn through play. To complete all administrative duties related to the tracking and implementation of this initiative.
Main Job Responsibilities
Create awareness about the programme through relationship building.
Engage directly with community partners as part of ongoing community engagement.
Attend all meetings, including weekly meetings or any other meetings deemed relevant by the Line Manager.
Recruit caregivers who qualify to receive training.
Plan the training requirements, including sourcing and securing facilities, preparing the venue and arranging catering.
Work closely with the caregivers on the "Learning Through Play" methodology and facilitate age-appropriate activities that engage children and caregivers in the play and learning experience.
Deliver the "Learning Through Play" model in an exemplary manner, emphasising creative and respectful ways for caregivers to interact with children.
Create and maintain a physical environment that is comfortable and engaging for both caregivers (and children).
Participate in daily set-up and clean-up of facilities.
Ensure weekly caregiver training targets are consistently met.
Support with any M&E requirements that may arise, such as site monitoring and observation.
Register caregivers, capture and file all relevant information, including caregiver attendance and registration forms.
Report on the value-added of the training and any learnings for future training.
Provide recommendations for budget realignments as required.
Support with the collection of information for all reports, including key accomplishments, significant risks or challenges, lessons learnt and any critical issues requiring attention.
Pre Requisite for the Position
Based in any of the four districts: Ngaka Modiri Molema (NMM); Dr Kenneth Kaunda (Dr KK); Dr Ruth Segomotsi Mompati (RSM); or Bojanala.
A minimum of one year of professional experience in training and facilitation, particularly in relation to early learning approaches for children from birth to 6 years.
Understanding of the NPO environment.
A passion for community development work and making a difference in the lives of children.
Demonstrated interest and ability to work with children and families from diverse backgrounds.
Enthusiastic, outgoing and energetic. Must be willing to play.
Be able to maintain quality interaction with caregivers and children.
Excellent communication skills.
Ability to work independently and collaboratively, as part of a team.
Ability to take direction well and work without constant supervision.
Fluency in one or more indigenous South African languages is an advantage.
A good understanding of the context and dynamics of the community in which they work.
Good organisation skills.
Innovation.
Comfortable engaging with large groups and able to engage one-on-one with community and municipal members.
ECD experience.
Proficiency in computer applications related to the tasks (Microsoft Office).
Great time management skills.
Preferred Qualifications:
Matric
NQF Level 4 ECD Qualification or higher
Based in one of those four districts
