Job Summary
We are seeking a dedicated and detail-oriented Personal Lines Underwriter to join our underwriting team. The successful candidate will be responsible for assessing and underwriting personal insurance policies, including home, motor, and personal liability, while ensuring compliance with underwriting standards and delivering exceptional service to clients. Responsibilities
Underwriting & Policy Management:
Issue new policies, renewals, and endorsements on the C360 system.
Prepare new business quotes.
Underwrite in accordance with standards, policies, and procedures.
Support the sales team in acquiring and retaining profitable business.
Review, correct, and manage unprofitable policies and overexposures.
Negotiate renewal terms and prepare renewal documentation.
Ensure timely completion of renewal reviews and calculation of retentions.
Request and monitor surveys as per procedures.
Conduct pre-dispatch checks to ensure accuracy of policy documentation.
Maintain telephone communication with clients for queries, amendments, and additional covers.
Save and maintain all work electronically.
Customer Service & Service Delivery:
Maintain service quality and ensure desired outputs within operational processes.
Resolve escalated customer queries and complaints; provide feedback to clients.
Develop and follow work routines to meet service delivery goals.
Contribute to the development and improvement of standards, control systems, and procedures.
Team Collaboration & People Practices:
Align personal behavior with organisational culture and values.
Share knowledge and expertise with colleagues.
Collaborate with the Underwriting team to achieve required service levels.
Continuous Improvement:
Adhere to organisational policies, practices, and procedures.
Identify and recommend process improvements for more efficient service delivery.
Requirements
Matric (or equivalent)
NQF 5 in Short-Term Insurance
Regulatory Exam RE5
Minimum of 4 years' experience in Personal Underwriting for II * Minimum 3 years experience in Personal Underwriting for I
Experience in Personal Lines Class of Business
DOFA confirmation from FSB
Experience with Cardinal 360 system (advantageous)
