The Payroll Manager will oversee and supervise the organisation's payroll functions, ensuring pay and relevant third parties are processed on time, accurately, and in compliance with government regulations. The Payroll Manager will report directly to the Chief Executive, Human Resources for Pepkor Speciality.
Key Responsibilities
Management Responsibilities:
Recruits, interviews, hires, and trains new staff in the department.
Oversees the daily workflow of the department.
Provides constructive and timely performance evaluations.
Ensures robust talent management plan is in place to ensure succession and continuity in the department within all functional areas.
Duties/Responsibilities:
Implements, maintains, and reviews payroll processing systems to ensure timely and accurate processing of payroll transactions, including salaries, benefits, garnishments, taxes, and other deductions as aligned to company and legislative requirements.
Ensures accurate and timely processing of payroll updates, including new hires, terminations, and changes to pay rates and variable pay.
Prepares and maintains accurate records and reports of payroll transactions that meet the internal and external auditors' requirements.
Ensures compliance with legislative and local payroll, wage, and hour laws and best practices as defined by each country's respective legislation.
Statutory reporting monthly and annually as per the necessary legislative requirements.
Develops, trains and implements change management strategies in the Payroll and HR team to ensure that strict operating procedures are followed in the business that supports the critical path of the payroll on a monthly basis.
Facilitates audits by providing records and documentation to auditors.
Identifies and recommends updates to payroll processing software, systems, and procedures to improve efficiencies, which includes scoping of requirements with external developers and UAT testing before go-live.
Ensure all financial reporting, posting of financial transactions etc are complied with as per the company requirements/SOP's.
Qualifications
Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Business Administration, Human Resources, or related field required.
Knowledge, Skills and Experience
5 years of related Management experience required, with integrated payroll systems experience (payroll size larger than 3000).
Minimum of 3 years SAGE People 300 experience.
Good understanding of employee tax.
Employee Benefit Fund administration.
Knowledge of Labour Legislation within the various trading countries, including statutory and legislative requirements relating to the function.
Extensive knowledge of the end-to-end payroll function, including all associated legislative requirements and fiduciary accountability in the relevant trading countries (RSA, Namibia, Lesotho, Botswana and eSwatini).
Setting critical paths and SOPs that deliver the required preparation, balancing and internal control, and payroll taxes as executed in the payroll function.
Excellent organisational skills and attention to detail.
Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
Strong supervisory and leadership skills.
Proficient with GSuite Suite-related software.
