Pastry, Baking, and Cold Kitchen

for an upmarket restaurant based in

Cape Town City Centre

Job Duties & Responsibilities

Demonstrate strong technical ability and solid understanding of pastry and baking principles. Assist in managing the Pastry and Cold Kitchen departments with confident leadership. Handle daily food preparation and duties assigned by supervisors, maintaining the highest standards set by the restaurant. Follow directives and recommendations from senior chefs to complete daily tasks. Coordinate daily tasks and workflow with the Senior Chef. Estimate daily production needs, ensuring all raw and cooked products meet quality standards. Maintain exceptional standards in the production, preparation, and presentation of all food items. Consistently work toward optimal guest satisfaction, quality, efficiency, and food cost control. Adhere to standard procedures for food preparation, receiving, storage, and sanitation. Maintain full awareness of all menu items, recipes, production methods, and presentation standards. Apply proper food preservation practices and ensure correct temperature management at all times. Operate and maintain all kitchen equipment safely, reporting any faults promptly. Ensure strong communication within the team and contribute to a secure, supportive working environment. Take personal responsibility for hygiene, safety protocols, and correct equipment use. Produce high-quality work within deadlines and support colleagues to achieve the same. Perform routine checks on expiry dates and storage conditions of all section items. Consult daily with the Senior Chef regarding requirements, functions, and any last-minute events.

Requirements

2-4 years' experience

in a similar Pastry CDP or Pastry-focused role. Strong technical pastry/baking background. Ability to work day, night, and double shifts as required. English language proficiency (Required). Must be able to

reliably commute

to Cape Town or be planning to relocate before starting.
