to lead and coordinate all bulk handling activities on site. The ideal candidate will ensure safe, efficient, and compliant operations while driving staff accountability, maintaining high operational standards, and continuously improving processes.
Key Responsibilities1. Bulk Operations Oversight
Supervise the full cycle of bulk cargo handling including vessel/vehicle offloading, internal transfers, stacking, loading, and dispatch.
Ensure correct and safe operation of mobile equipment (payloaders, forklifts, grabbers, etc.) and strict adherence to SOPs.
Maintain compliance with cargo specifications, customer requirements, and site standards.
2. Workforce Supervision & Accountability
Allocate daily tasks and monitor productivity of general workers, operators, tally clerks, and support staff.
Conduct effective operational planning and communicate tasks clearly to the team.
Enforce timekeeping, attendance, and PPE/uniform standards.
Perform daily site inspections, verify timesheets/overtime, and report absenteeism or misconduct to HR/Operations Manager.
3. Safety & Compliance
Enforce strict compliance with OHS, environmental and safety policies.
Conduct toolbox talks, daily equipment checks, and ensure safe work practices are followed.
Report hazards, incidents, and non-compliance immediately.
Maintain cargo segregation, spill control, and site cleanliness at all times.
4. Documentation & Reporting
Validate tally sheets, production notes, weighbridge slips, loading instructions, and dispatch documents.
Support accurate real-time data capture with the admin team.
Submit shift handovers, daily reports, and incident documentation on time.
5. SOP Execution & Continuous Improvement
Ensure all operational SOPs are followed consistently.
Identify inefficiencies and recommend improvements to enhance safety, speed, and accuracy.
Assist in training staff and implementing updated procedures.
6. Site Readiness & Resource Management
Monitor equipment readiness and report breakdowns promptly.
Ensure staff facilities and operational tools (radios, scanners, PPE) are available and functional.
Support efficient cargo space planning to minimize double-handling.
Requirements
Matric / Grade 12
Minimum 3 years' experience in a bulk warehouse or similar environment
Strong knowledge of heavy-duty cargo handling equipment and warehouse processes
Computer literate (MS Excel, email, warehouse systems)
