to oversee the full hotel operation, ensuring excellence across guest experience, compliance, financial performance, and team leadership.
The successful candidate will play a key strategic and operational role -- supporting all departments, driving standards, and maintaining seamless day-to-day coordination between teams, suppliers, and management.
Key Responsibilities1. Human Resources & People Management
Oversee recruitment, onboarding, contracts, and induction across all departments.
Manage payroll submissions, staff records, and SEESA/HR compliance.
Support HODs in rostering, leave management, and performance evaluations.
Ensure all HR documentation and SOPs remain current and compliant with South African labour law.
Partner with SEESA and ILS/HPP for skills development, disciplinary guidance, and employment equity.
2. Operational Leadership
Act as the link between all operational departments and the General Manager.
Lead daily operations meetings and weekly HOD reviews.
Maintain high standards of hygiene, service, and safety across the property.
Oversee guest experience, resolve escalations, and ensure consistent LQA benchmark compliance.
Serve as
Manager on Duty (MOD)
on a rotational basis.
3. Financial Oversight & Procurement
Support the preparation of annual budgets and monthly forecasts.
Approve supplier invoices, manage procurement controls, and track cost of sales.
Oversee departmental spending and ensure accurate submission to Accounts.
Maintain relationships with suppliers, negotiate rates, and ensure compliance with procurement policies.
4. Maintenance & Equipment Servicing
Manage all building maintenance, service contracts, and compliance certifications.
Coordinate with vendors for fire, HVAC, generator, and CCTV servicing.
Liaise with trustees and contractors for body corporate and structural projects (e.g. facade repairs, waterproofing, heat-pump reinstatement).
Maintain the maintenance log, servicing tracker, and safety certification records.
5. Front Office & Systems Management
Oversee Front Office operations including MEWS, Dineplan, and Visionline systems.
Support guest check-in/check-out processes and ensure billing accuracy.
Monitor occupancy, reservations, and rate management with the GM and FO team.
Ensure data accuracy, compliance, and smooth integration across operational systems.
6. Events & Guest Experience
Support event planning and operational execution for hotel functions, including First Thursdays*, private events, and seasonal celebrations. Coordinate with the Events and F&B teams to ensure smooth logistics and excellent guest experiences.
Uphold the brand presentation of public spaces during events (lighting, music, decor, cleanliness).
7. Compliance & Safety
Chair the
Occupational Health & Safety Committee
and ensure monthly inspections.
Maintain OHS, Skills Development, and Employment Equity compliance.
Oversee insurance claims, licensing renewals, and annual audits.
Uphold strict adherence to fire, food safety, and hygiene regulations.
8. Leadership & Mentorship
Lead by example through visibility, fairness, and proactive engagement.
Mentor department heads and foster growth within the team.
Conduct one-on-one check-ins, provide feedback, and support performance development.
Build a culture of accountability, communication, and continuous improvement.
Candidate Requirements
Minimum 3
years' experience
in hotel or hospitality operations management.
Proven track record in HR, compliance, and financial administration.
Strong understanding of
Front Office, F&B, Maintenance, and Housekeeping operations
.
Excellent communication, leadership, and problem-solving skills.
Knowledge of
South African Labour Law, OHS, and Hospitality Compliance
frameworks.
Experience with
MEWS, Lightspeed, MarketMan, and Dineplan
advantageous.
Flexible availability and ability to be on call for emergencies.
