OPERATIONS ENGINEER NOC Johannesburg - 12 Month Fixed Term Contract Salary: Market related

Key Performance Area:

• Ensure that the WACS submarine network is always operational.
• Monitor and track WACS scheduled network maintenance activities, analysing the duration and potential impact to customers.
• React to WACS network alarms and localize the fault.
• Follow trouble-shooting processes to identify the fault in the WACS network.
• Log fault and its progress to resolution (remedy, send email and SMS updates, including progress of Technician to get to site and his/her actions on site).
• Resolve network problems using software or application to localize the fault.
• Keep WACS consortium parties informed where faults cannot be resolved.
• Keep the WACS consortium informed as to progress on fault resolution.
• Pre-empt customer queries through acting on alarms and resolving issues before the customer becomes aware of them.
• Advise WACS consortium of planned maintenance requirements timeously.
• Explain technical information in an easy-to-understand terms licenses.

Minimum Requirements:

• National Diploma in Electrical or Computer Systems Engineering (or equivalent skills and experience on Telecommunication Network).
• Three years experience in submarine cable networks NOC
• Three years experience with DWDM networks
• Two years experience with SDH or OTN networks
• Three years experience working with Alcatel and Huawei submarine network elements and associated network management systems.
• Ability to explain to Technicians on site required actions and identification of components at a detailed level.

Key Competencies

• Traffic provisioning and services assurance of Alcatel SDH 1678, Alcatel DWDM 1620 & 1626, Huawei SDH 9560 & Huawei DWDM 1600 & 8800.
• SDH & DWDM fundamental
• Wet segment & PFE knowledge for submarine cable system.
• IP fundamental & Basic router troubleshooting
