We have an exciting opportunity for a Occupational Hygiene Assistant who will be involved in the, in the measurement of environmental stress factors (e.g. air monitoring) the evaluation and control of exposures to ensure that Sishen mines remains compliant to health and hygiene legislation so as to provide for the well-being of employees and prevent occupational diseases.

Kumba Iron Ore

We produce high-grade iron ore, the key component in steel widely used in construction and manufacturing across the world. Our activities include all aspects - exploration; mining; processing and blending; shipping; marketing and selling. In South Africa, we have mining operations in the Northern Cape province, as well as a head office in Centurion, Gauteng, and a port operation in Saldanha Bay, Western Cape.



As our Occupational Hygiene Assistant some of your responsibilities will include but not limited to:

• Accurate, meaningful samples obtained from personal monitoring.
• Monitoring and inspection of working areas
• Prepare Occupational Hygiene Instrumentation For Measurement
• Inspect instrumentation to ensure that it is clean and in good working order
• Take Occupational Hygiene Measurements by using appropriate sampling methodologies, which complies with internationally accepted standards compatible to best practice.
• Conduct Field Observation and Occupational Hygiene Related Inspections
• OHA must inspect the area where the employees are performing to observe, evaluate and report the effectiveness of controls
• Record Occupational Hygiene Measurements
• Overexposure Reporting and Investigation
• The overexposure information must be entered onto the Overexposure Information excel spreadsheet.
• OHA must attend and chair the overexposure investigation. A copy of the completed noise monitoring field sheet for the overexposure area must be taken with for the investigation.
• Facilitate 11.5 occupational hygiene investigations
• Compile and present Personal exposure reports
• Schedule and present Occupational Hygiene Training with Sections
• Compile list of employees in the sampling schedule
• Adhoc Functions (Samples, Meetings and assistance to the Occupational Hygiene Technologist)
• Work ethics
• Safe & healthy work environment

Qualifications

You will be required to have the following:

• Grade 12
• Registration with the Southern African Institute for Occupational Hygiene (SAIOH) / Passed Practical in Mine Environmental Control issued by Minerals Council of South Africa /Certificate in Basic Principles of Occupational Hygiene issued by Occupational Hygiene Training Association (OHTA)
• 1-2 year(s) experience in Safety Health and Environment (SHE)
• Code 8 Drivers License
