We have an exciting opportunity for a Mine Actvity Design Engineer X2 who update and design efficient pit and waste dumps, in line with geotechnical and safety guidelines to ensure optimal and economically viable resource utilisation.

Kumba Iron Ore

We produce high-grade iron ore, the key component in steel widely used in construction and manufacturing across the world. Our activities include all aspects - exploration; mining; processing and blending; shipping; marketing and selling. In South Africa, we have mining operations in the Northern Cape province, as well as a head office in Centurion, Gauteng, and a port operation in Saldanha Bay, Western Cape.



As our Mine Activity Design Engineer some of your responsibilities will include but not limited to:

Mine Planning

• Ensure an accurate planning design in accordance with the Mine, Health and Safety Act and the mine's regulations, and is within the budget that directs the production activities to achieve targets.
• Adjust the designed plans according to geological deviations and ensure that accurate redesigns are within the set budget limits to comply with the short-term plan (including the positioning of road-, electrical and water networks).
• Ensure that plans are adjusted according to geological deviations, market trends and fluctuations to add valuable inputs to the bigger mine plan picture in terms of optimal and economical production output. Updating of designs and plans as requested by operations or MTS.
• Keep abreast of developments in the mine planning field to initiate and implement projects and improvement initiatives toward contributing to business profitability and growth.

Stakeholder Management

• Build, manage and maintain healthy relations with stakeholders to assist in achievement of organizational goals.
• Liaise with stakeholders to provide relevant support and input for production targets achievement.

Budget and Cost Control Management

• Manage the section's expenditure within the approved budget to ensure effective cost control and savings.

Kumba of the Future

• Understand the complete KOTF structural changes for the Production North Mining Department. Participate as an effective team member working collaboratively with the Manager on the Department implementation plan and develop an implementation plan for approval for North Mining.

Safe and Healthy Work Environment

• Manage a safe and healthy work environment where workers and contractor can deliver their outputs within a controlled risk environment.
• Keep environmental impact within statutory requirements to ensure compliance to statutory requirements is met.

This role is in the Mine Technical Services department on a band 6.10 level reporting to the Section Manager Mine Planning

Qualifications

You will be required to have the following:

• B Degree/B Tech in Mining Engineering
• 3 to 5 years' Operational Mining experience
• 1 year Mine Planning experience will be an advantage
• Valid Driver's License
