To succeed in this role, you need a solid academic foundation and professional registration, a B.Sc. Honours Degree is essential, along with registration as a Medical Scientist with the HPCSA. These qualifications are non-negotiable because they ensure you have the knowledge and credibility to deliver exceptional outcomes in a highly specialised environment. You bring 2 years of internship experience along with at least 12 months of experiential learning in a molecular laboratory. This hands-on experience gives you the confidence to navigate complex processes and adapt to evolving technologies. It is not just about technical exposure, it is about developing the mindset to embrace continuous learning and contribute to a culture of growth and accountability.
Skills Requirements
Your technical knowledge of microbiology, aligned with HPCSA regulations, is critical. You understand the Health and Safety Act and apply it diligently to protect yourself and others. Strong computer skills enable you to work effectively with technology, while your ability to communicate fluently in English ensures clarity and collaboration. Numerical reasoning is part of your toolkit, allowing you to perform essential calculations with ease. If you have experience with the Meditech system, that is a bonus, but what matters most is your willingness to learn and grow.
