Essence - The Mechanical Fitter will be responsible for maintenance, repairs, and mechanical support across fleet, workshop, and agricultural operations. This includes working on hydraulic systems, agricultural machinery, generators and plant equipment. The Mechanical Fitter will ensure efficient operations, optimal asset availability, cost effectiveness, and high-quality standards while adhering to all legislative regulations and safety requirements. The role reports to the Maintenance Foreman.

Minimum Requirements



Required Skills/Abilities:



Strong mechanical fitting and fault-finding capabilities. Proficiency in hydraulic systems and mechanical assemblies. Ability to interpret technical drawings and manuals. Skilled in using hand and power tools. Proactive and solution-oriented mindset. High attention to detail. Ability to work independently and within a team. Willingness to work flexible hours and respond to breakdowns.

Education and Experience:



Mechanical Fitter trade test or equivalent mechanical qualification. Fitter and Turner qualification will be an advantage. Minimum 3-5 years in mechanical maintenance, preferably in agricultural or industrial environments.

Physical Requirements:



Prolonged periods of standing and/or walking. Must be able to navigate various areas of the organization's physical premises. Ability to work extended hours when required.

Duties and Responsibilities



Supervisory Responsibilities:



The Mechanical Fitter may be required to mentor junior maintenance staff or apprentices.

Support team coordination and task execution under the guidance of the Maintenance Foreman and/or Maintenance Planner.



Roles and Responsibilities:



Report to the Maintenance Foreman and maintain open communication regarding equipment conditions and operational needs. Perform mechanical fitting, maintenance, and repairs on agricultural machinery, packhouse equipment, hydraulic systems, Forklifts and fleet vehicles as needed. Diagnose faults and conduct root cause analysis on mechanical breakdowns. Execute planned and reactive maintenance tasks to minimize downtime. Fabricate and install mechanical components using appropriate tools and techniques. Maintain accurate maintenance records and support CMMS implementation. Collaborate with technicians and production teams to ensure equipment reliability. Comply with safety, health, environmental, and quality standards. * Support training and development of junior staff where applicable.
