Mechanical Design Engineer

Purpose of Position:

Complement Recruitment are recruiting for a Mechanical Design Engineer. The main purpose of this role is to design mechanical and optical components and systems for our products that meet performance, form, fit and functional requirements while maintaining manufacturability and minimising costs. This role reports to the Engineering Manager and is based in Centurion, Gauteng.

Minimum Requirements Qualifications And Skills

xe2x97x8f Bachelors Degree in Mechanical Engineering

xe2x97x8f Minimum 5 years experience in mechanical design;

xe2x97x8f In-depth knowledge of Fusion 360 or other 3D CAD software;

xe2x97x8f Additive manufacturing experience advantageous (3D printing rapid prototyping);

xe2x97x8f Preference given to knowledge of optical system design;

xe2x97x8f Experience in aerospace or other standards and process driven industries;

xe2x97x8f Investigative mind inclined toward developing practical solutions to real-world problems;

xe2x97x8f Hands-on approach and proficiency with machinery including lathe, CNC and general tools;

xe2x97x8f Extensive knowledge of fabrication processes, especially machining & plastic injection molding;

xe2x97x8f Impeccable attention to detail;

xe2x97x8f Ability to plan, schedule, collaborate and problem solve effectively;

DUTIES:

xe2x97x8f Design simple yet effective and innovative solutions to complex problems;

xe2x97x8f Design mechanical parts, systems and subsystems for products, test equipment and production jigs using CAD;

xe2x97x8f Apply Physics, Mechanics and Design principles using CAD to optimise solutions;

xe2x97x8f Manage component libraries according to the required standards;

xe2x97x8f Manage development projects to meet the required specifications on time and within budget;

xe2x97x8f Arrange and conduct regular project update meetings with the Engineering Manager;

xe2x97x8f Collaborate with Procurement and Finance for component cost estimates and costing of the final product;

xe2x97x8f Collaborate with the Development Team, Production Engineer and Quality Management to ensure designs are feasible, satisfy the form, fit, function and aesthetics requirements as well as meet the required certification standards;

xe2x97x8f Prepare test plans and test procedures for opto-electronic systems to verify that specifications are satisfied ;

xe2x97x8f Develop and build prototypes to test (rapid prototyping);

xe2x97x8f Record and evaluate testing data, altering designs as necessary to meet performance and efficiency requirements;

xe2x97x8f Assist with product certification activities where necessary;

xe2x97x8f Select optimal materials and manufacturing processes for each component to ensure reliability and cost effectiveness;

xe2x97x8f Ensure that all design output documentation in terms of BOMs, drawings, CAD & CAM files etc. are correctly produced and stored to the standards determined by the company;

xe2x97x8f Consult with external providers during manufacturing, advising them on design specifications, providing assistance and making design changes when required;

xe2x97x8f Provide technical support in the design and development of mechanical and optical systems;

xe2x97x8f Provide technical support to Production;

xe2x97x8f Interact with Engineering and Production to understand difficulties experienced during manufacturing;

xe2x97x8f Provide technical support and after sales service to customers as needed;

xe2x97x8f Work with customers to resolve design and manufacturing questions when necessary;

xe2x97x8f Research new materials, methods of development and latest technologies to improve product performance;

xe2x97x8f Compliance with the Quality Management System;

xe2x97x8f Compliance with Safety, Health & Environmental policies.
