Duties/Pligte

Leadership and management

+ Leading the implementation of a sustainable coaching structure that serves towards an excellent value proposition for club members and coaches. + Establishing and maintaining a high-performance coaching plan collaboratively with appointed individual athletics discipline club coaches.
+ Collectively as coaching staff, establishing an inclusive coaching structure and system that serves all members of the Athletics Club.
+ Submitting quarterly reports aligned to the Maties Sport reporting framework.
+ Playing an active role in assisting the club manager to create and implement collaborative programmes and new initiative for Maties Athletics.
+ Leading weekly reporting and planning meetings with the Maties Athletics coaching staff.
+ Supporting the fundraising initiatives of the Maties Athletics Club through annual activities.
+ Being an active participating and contributing member of the Maties Athletics Club Committee.

Recruitment and Retention

+ Establishing, optimising and implementing a three-year Recruitment and Retention Strategy to include talent identification, scouting and recruitment, aligned to and meeting the Stellenbosch University (SU) admissions policy and academic requirements. + Establishing, optimising and implementing a three-year sport bursary budget in line with Maties Sport allocations, in consultation with Maties Athletics Club coaches.
+ Implementing a long-term student-athlete development pathway that aligns with the sustainable bursary budget.
+ Promoting the quality of opportunities for the BCIA students as a priority strategic objective.
+ Working with the Sport Manager and the Senior Manager: Maties Sport High Performance in the facilitation, implementation and monitoring of the annual sport bursary budget according to the Stellenbosch University and Maties Sport requirements for the final approval from the Chief Director: Maties Sport.
+ Performance Enhancement
+ As head coach, coaching a minimum of ten athletes within the first 18 months of the appointment.
+ Leading the coaching of Maties Athletics teams participating in national university competitions.
+ Ensuring a sustainable club coaching model that specifically focuses on long-term student-athlete development of BICA student-athletes.
+ Designing and implementing a coaching performance evaluation system to ensure that annual performance targets are met.
+ Developing a coaching development pathway and performance evaluation system, aligned with the Maties Sport training and development programme, and meeting transformation requirements.

Integrated Medicine and Science (IMAS) and Holistic Student-Athlete Support

+ Managing the implementation of an evidence based annual IMAS performance enhancement programme to ensure continued enhancement of performance in all competitions and leagues, in close collaboration with the HP Unit, Strength and Conditioning coaches and medical staff at Campus Health Services. + Managing individual performance assessments for all bursary student-athletes ensuring academic and athletics performance standards and coaching development programmes.
+ Successfully managing the PACER programme to include the full participation of all student-athletes.
+ Guiding the Maties Athletics team coaches, teams and student-athletes to optimise the use of evidence-based interventions that ensures the enhancement of athletic performance.
+ Ensuring access to the Maties Sport Injury clinic and injury management programme through injury reporting.
+ Contributing to the overall functioning of the Maties Athletics annual performance plans and its future by accepting responsibility for sustainability and adhering to a code of high-performance ethics.
+ Promoting Drug Free Sport amongst the student-athletes.




Job Requirements/Pos Vereistes

Minimum qualifications

Valid Athletics South Africa Level 3, or World Athletics level 2 or 3 coaching certification. A valid driver's licence and own transport. The position requires working after hours, including evenings, weekends and on public holidays.

Minimum experience

At least five years' coaching experience within the environments of high school, university, provincial and national level. Have applied knowledge and experience in working with athletes on a development pathway. Experience in athlete recruitment and engagement with relevant networks such as schools. Experience of working effectively as part of an Integrated Medicine and Science support staff and coaching team.

Skills

The ability to give strategic direction in an ever-increasing professional environment. Participative and effective leadership and management style. High level of management and leadership skills. Strong interpersonal skills. Results-oriented. Computer literacy regarding MS Word, Excel, PowerPoint and Outlook. Administrative skills and the ability to provide accurate and informative written and verbal reports. The ability to take initiative, be innovative and to function effectively under pressure. The ability to prioritise effectively. Accuracy in performing administrative tasks. Excellent time management skills. The ability to respect and maintain confidentiality.

Knowledge

The knowledge, ability and sophistication needed to interact with business, government, federations/unions/franchises, and other national stakeholders such as schools.
