To drive the growth, retention, and servicing of GEMS membership within allocated government departments and employer groups. The GEMS Marketer/Consultant acts as the primary liaison between the Scheme and public service employees, ensuring accurate benefit education, exceptional member experience, and compliance with Scheme, FSP, and regulatory requirements.
ROLES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
1. Member Acquisition & Growth
Promote GEMS benefit options to eligible public service employees across national, provincial, and local government departments.
2. Member Retention & Servicing
Provide accurate advice on benefit options, contributions, chronic registration, claims queries, underwriting, and authorisations.
Assist members with escalations, following up with Scheme channels until resolution is achieved.
Drive option change education campaigns, especially during mid-year and annual switch periods.
Support continuation of membership processes (resignations, retirement, continuation beneficiaries).
3. Stakeholder Engagement
Build and maintain strong relationships with HR, organised labour, wellness coordinators, and departmental leadership.
Secure and manage access to employer sites for activations, induction sessions, seminars, and service days.
Represent GEMS at government events, exhibitions, and wellness programmes.
4. Compliance & Regulatory Alignment
Conduct all marketing activities in line with FAIS, POPIA, FSP policies, and Scheme rules.
Maintain updated knowledge of GEMS benefit options, underwriting rules, PMB protocols, and contributions.
Ensure all documentation is correctly completed, submitted, and securely stored in line with compliance standards.
5. Reporting & Administration
Submit weekly and monthly performance reports, including leads, conversions, activations, and departmental engagement activities.
Track and manage member queries to closure.
Maintain accurate records of site access, bookings, and stakeholder engagements.
Key Competencies
Technical Knowledge
In-depth understanding of medical scheme benefits, PMBs, CMS regulations, underwriting categories, and chronic benefit structures.
Proficiency in digital tools (CRM systems, GEMS App, member portal, digital lead platforms).

Qualifications & Experience
Minimum Requirements
Grade 12 / Matric
NQF Level 6 (an advantage)
Regulatory Exam (RE5) advantageous (depending on FSP requirement)
FAIS credits or equivalent NQF qualification (where applicable)
Minimum 1-3 years' experience in medical scheme, insurance, financial services, or healthcare marketing
Valid driver's licence and willingness to travel extensively
Experience engaging with government departments is highly advantageous
