As our Manager Mining, your responsibilities will include the following but not limited to:

Business Expectations:

  • Provide Mining-specific information as input to the development of the Life of Asset Plan and the Resource Development Plan.
  • Break down Group requirements and performance targets to site level, translate into site-specific targets and budgets and communicate to on-site teams.
  • Implement and monitor technical and operational improvements which includes the adoption of technological and digitalization / Future Mine requirements to meet sustainability.
  • Implement and execute the mining strategy to achieve production targets.
Operational Planning:
  • Provide Mining input into site-specific 5-year plan, lead development and ongoing management of the site Mining BP and 1-year budget.
  • Review and sign off technical plans and production inputs for budgets and the Operating Master Schedule, ensuring they are based on sound logic with appropriate stretch and actionable planned improvements.
  • Work with Corporate/ BU/Technical Services to develop and implement plans and to optimize extraction, material movement and grade management.
  • Establish effective communication and feedback processes for Mining teams and key stakeholder groups to ensure people are informed and aware of business objectives, performance and direction in a timely and routine manner.
  • Drive continuous improvement of on-site Mining work and cross-functional interfaces required to deliver safe, sustainable and efficient operations.
  • Identify benchmarks and best practices for on-site Mining work to set performance goals that will deliver the 1-year budget and 5-year plan.
  • Optimize mine operating and management standards and processes to ensure safe, efficient, and productive mining operations and the delivery of benchmark performance.
  • Develop and implement tactics and plans to optimize development, production, and support processes, ensuring target specifications and quality measures are met and exceeded.
  • Manage across functions to align on business objectives and ensure commitment and responsibility on overlapping business requirements (upstream, downstream and in process).
  • Ensure there is an agreed plan in place to deliver improvements to benchmark on all priority Mining equipment within 3 years.
Work Management:
  • Effectively lead and manage Mining operations to deliver the budget including all relevant production, safely, environmental, cost and quality targets.
  • Manage process and costs to ensure the Mining teams set and deliver the annual budget and production targets safely, efficiently and cost effectively.
  • Develop cost awareness within Mining discipline and focus on reducing all process waste.
  • Work closely, collaborate proactively and resolve issues jointly with Processing to align tonnage to fragmentation/volume/grade targets and with AS&R to align equipment availability targets, fixed plan infrastructure operational reliability programs.
  • Embed systems, targets and processes to effectively track and control execution on a monthly basis, ensuring a high level of compliance to plan across suite of metrics.
  • Apply work management principles and processes of AAOM to ensure appropriately detailed operational and execution planning over multiple time horizons.
  • Optimize the Dispatch Fleet Management System (and mine management systems) to ensure efficient mining operations in line with plans and the delivery of benchmark performance on priority equipment.
  • Review mining equipment fleet selection and equipment performance, considering maintenance/operational performance outcomes and installed system capability/capacity.
  • Ensure availability of available or planned fleet (equipment) to deliver challenging mine plans and schedules.
  • Provide thought leadership to all mining activities to ensure a realistic range of options are investigated, considered and effectively implemented, with recognition of effective discipline integration and value from synergies.
Feedback:
  • Identify and embed business initiatives and improvement projects into site operational processes to support delivery of best practice mining performance (P101).
  • Use a structured VDT (Value Driver Tree) approach to asset optimization and continuous improvement of Mining performance, incorporating best practice benchmarking and implementation of new practices and technologies to embed and sustain performance.
  • Establish systematic suite of real time monitoring, reporting, reconciliation and review in line with the Anglo American Operating Model (Analyze and Improve).
  • Ensure that effective management processes are in place to re-align or direct the business to execute in line with plan, and deliver P101 best practice performance on productivity, quality, safety and cost.
  • Proactively identify Mining-related challenges and opportunities that new systems, equipment and technology could address.
  • Define challenges, opportunities and impact within and beyond the Mining discipline.
  • Actively seek expert input from Group subject matter experts who lead solution design.
  • Embed new technologies into the on-site Mining work once solution design is execution-ready.
  • Support change management processes in implementation of new technologies.
  • Establish authorities/resources/performance targets.
  • Monitor and measure benefit realization.
  • Hold individuals and teams to account as appropriate.
This role is in the Mining department at a Band 5 level reporting to the General Manager

Qualifications

You will be required to have the following:
  • BEng Mining / BTech Eng Mining / NHD Metalliferous Mining (essential)
  • Mine Managers Certificate of Competency (essential)
  • Master's Degree will be an advantage.
  • Drivers' License
Knowledge, Skills & Experience:
  • 10 years' experience as a Production / Mine Manager in a Hard Rock Mining environment
  • Background in Mechanised Mining will be an advantage
  • Medically fit
