Job Advert Summary

PURPOSE:
  • To develop and implement Engineering and Physical Asset Management strategies for the Business Unit aligned with overall Group Engineering Strategy.
  • To co-ordinate engineering activities across the Business Unit in line with corporate guidelines and best practices.

Minimum Requirements


QUALIFICATIONS:
  • BEng Electrical Engineering (Essential/Minimum or)
  • BEng Mechanical Engineering (Essential/Minimum)
  • Gov Cert of Competence: Engineering (Essential/Minimum)
  • Management Development Programme (Essential/Minimum)
EXPERIENCE:

8-10 years Relevant experience in Maintenance practices and audits; Physical Asset Management best practice; Entrenchment of long-term asset management strategies; Engineering design and principles; which includes at least 5 years in Project execution and management (Essential/Minimum) Operational
REQUIREMENTS:
  • Psychometric Assessment (Essential/Minimum)
  • Certificate of Fitness (Essential/Minimum)
  • MHS Act Regulation 2.13.1(Engineer) (Essential/Minimum)
  • Engineering Council of SA (PrEng) (Recommended/Desirable)

Duties & Responsibilities

Best Practice and Knowledge Management
  • Continuously monitors exchange and preservation of information between operations and individuals to facilitate effective knowledge management
  • Identify new engineering solutions using appropriate technologies
  • Manage discipline interfaces within technical environment
  • Participate in professional external forums
  • Create and manage professional networks

Business Performance and Operations
  • Manage service delivery within budget parameters
  • Manage business drivers, identify and exploit improvement opportunities
  • Technical contribution in individual skill area including active involvement in peer review process
  • Increase awareness of tech advancements to ensure access to appropriate technology to meet business needs and continues to expand technical base
  • Develop appropriate management systems to ensure delivery of quality engineering outcomes to support projects and Business Units (BUxe2x80x99s)

Compliance, Governance and Assurance
  • Ensure all business and engineering operations adhere and comply with corporate governance, statutory, legal and other requirements
  • Manage and ensure integration between various technology capabilities involved in project execution and delivery within discipline
  • Manage the development of Company standards and specifications
  • Ensure compliance to sound engineering standards and quality
  • Manage and co-ordinate technical reporting for Engineering project reviews
  • Ensure a standardized approach to service delivery
  • Coordinate engineering audits required by Group Manager, recommend corrective actions and rectify where required

Consulting and Project Services
  • Evaluate and complete capital projects with minimum risk, within allocated timeframes and according to specified budgetary requirements
  • Manage and execute BUxe2x80x99s capital projects in accordance with delegated models and authorities

Customer and Client Relationship Management
  • Manage stakeholders to ensure services are delivered according to Service Level Agreements
  • Establish and maintain Business Partner Relationships to facilitate optimal functioning of Functional Area
  • Responsible for standardisation of delivery to Company
  • Identify, recommend and implement Service performance improvements
  • Manage internal and external relations, including interfaces with external providers and other functions to ensure business needs are met

Effective People Management
  • An optimised team structure is manned by motivated and empowered staff and lead by sound performance management and transformational leadership practices
  • Promote teamwork, provide support and manage performance by creating and maintaining individual development plans of subordinates
  • Manage key performance by setting and monitoring standards
  • Anticipate future Service requirements, draft and implement strategies to optimise staffing
  • Ensure Talent pipeline supports achievement of Employment Equity (EE), diversity and competency targets
  • Foster an environment where people are motivated
  • Articulate, adopt, embrace and live values
  • Facilitate work environment that encourage and ensures execution of Services
  • Ensure staff efficiently deployed and undertake required training
  • Coach and mentor engineers

Financial Management
  • Develop financial budgets for department with assistance of function leads to ensure sufficient financial resources according to strategic and operational requirements
  • Prepare, manage and control section's annual budget by forecasting operational costs and monitor cash flow on a regular basis
  • Approve relevant contracts and documentation in line with departmental budgetary stipulations
  • Focus on advancements in specialist field in order to assess advancements and potential cost reduction

Functional Excellence
  • Adhere to functional policies, standards, guidelines, procedures, end- to-end processes, tools, templates etc.
  • Assist in standardising, simplifying and speeding-up functional processes, eliminating duplication/bureaucracy.
  • Apply functional best practices, promote sharing of best practices/knowledge.

Safe and Healthy Work Environment
  • Maintain and ensure a healthy environment, safe operations and practices, ensuring compliance with all applicable SHEC policies and procedures in line with set standards
  • Encourage a culture that focuses on safety in all operations

Specialised Support
  • Review compliance to Physical Asset Management (PAM) processes and address deviations
  • Ensure PAM strategy compliant with corporate
  • Optimize BU specific Physical Asset strategies according to Life Cycle Costing (LCC) models and optimize BU asset budgets
  • Optimize asset cost/efficiencies
  • Review/assess utilization of Physical Assets
  • Establish improvement program for Physical Assets/PAM Systems
  • Chair PAM strategic meetings under governance/guidance of PAM Communities of Practice (CoPxe2x80x99s)
  • Review progress of PAM objectives/initiatives and plans for BU

Strategy Management
  • Ensure that business plan contributes to overall success of the Company
  • Optimal utilization of mining and mineral resources through reliable physical assets
