Purpose of the role is to provide credit risk structuring to the front office function in our Cape Town office for Regional Credit offices which includes comprehensive credit risk structuring and origination, as part of the CIB Client Service Teams (xe2x80x9cCSTsxe2x80x9d) and deal teams.

To ensure the origination of new deals is completed within risk appetite and agreed turnaround times.

Key Responsibilities
Client Engagement.
Review and understand complex transactions in order to facilitate an effective risk assessment, thereby gaining an understanding of risk impacts.
Analyse credit applications to assess whether the credit risk is in line with the Bank's Credit Appetite and relative to the profitability of the deal.
Demonstrate well thought out decisions, showing sound judgement where applications require specialist Project Finance, Structured Transactions or other Product knowledge.
Effective provision of analyses and recommendations where applications require referral to the relevant credit committee.
Present credit applications to New Business Approval Committee (xe2x80x9cNBACxe2x80x9d),Credit Commitees and Ad Hoc Forums that consisting of Exco members for approval.

Ensure the appropriate and effective management of allocated portfolio.
Apply knowledge of Credit policies and practices, and proactively identify and communicate key risks as they arise.
Questioning and understanding changes in credit quality in any counterparty/industry and how these changes impact the credit application(s) under consideration.
Making recommendations to the Credit Risk Evaluation team to highlight industry trends and the strategic implications for managing the credit facilities of clients in those geographies and industries.

Ensure efficient and effective stakeholder engagement.
Proactively develop and manage relationships with key internal and external stakeholders.
Build and develop relationships across the firm with various stakeholders with the intention of breaking down silos to maximise business growth.
Ability to influence all key stakeholders through knowledge and experience.
Hold primary relationship with clients and handle all aspects of client interaction including coordinating and execution of transactions.

Qualifications

  • Business Commerce/Finance/Engineering/BSc. Real Estate Finance
Experience
  • Thorough conceptual and practical knowledge of credit procedures, policies and standards, as well as a thorough understanding of products and facilities that give rise to counterparty credit risk.
  • Understanding of Basel and broader regulatory and compliance requirements.
  • Good understanding of lending and derivative products and facilities that give rise to counterparty credit risks, including the documentation required/presented to manage that risk.
  • Well developed knowledge of financial markets, global economy and appropriate regional geographies in which portfolio operates.
  • Good understanding of accounting (both management and financial accounting) to analyse financial strengths and weaknesses of clients and identify potential risks to credit proposals.
  • Understanding and working knowledge of risk systems monitoring and its related procedures for analysing the account behaviour of clients and identifying trends and shifts in credit risk profiles.
  • Thorough understanding of bank's products and facilities that give rise to counter party credit risk.
  • Strong technical understanding of non-credit risks encountered within transactions.
