Purpose of Position

By ensuring that the continuous improvement process is applied and followed to ensure asset availability, the Maintenance & Reliability (M&R) Engineer shall assist Vopak to ensure that it delivers a reliable and quality service to its customers. In order to ensure a strong financial performance both in the short and long term, the M&R Engineer shall ensure that the current preventative maintenance strategies are implemented (and improved where necessary) with a future focus on predictive maintenance.

The incumbent shall also endeavour to implement and maintain activities in line with asset management principles. The M&R Engineer shall bring knowledge of engineering standards, SHEQ and legal requirements in order to ensure that Vopak maintenance activities, equipment installation and operation are carried out in line with these specifications.

The position is primarily responsible for developing the 5-year maintenance plan and consult with the Maintenance Manager, Planner Maintenance and Supervisor Maintenance to get their input.

Tasks & Responsibilities

Continuous Improvement:

• Ensure continuous improvement and improved asset availability of the facilitiesxe2x80x99 equipment by identifying problems through root cause analysis and providing solutions thereto
• Apply asset management principles to coordinate site maintenance activitie
• Develop strategies and rollout of appropriate continuous monitoring for site equipment
• Develop asset trees / functional location structure and rank the criticality of equipment
• Manage and update the Service KPI house statistics
• Review cost estimates and validate a new cost estimate and budget for the PM schedule or proposed quotation with the Maintenance Supervisors and Maintenance Manager
• Lead in the development and management of Reliability KPIs (Durban and Lesedi)

Maintenance

• Create/ensure that preventative maintenance procedures are in place, planned and carried out
• Create plans on how to move towards more predictive maintenance especially on business-critical equipment
• Update PM schedule including identification of the source of the preventive maintenance schedule (Regulatory, Vopak standard, Risk, OEM)
• Conduct audits and quality inspections of maintenance work to ensure compliance to Vopak Global standards
• Ensuring that contractors adhere to the company SHEQ requirements
• Anticipate, plan and initiate replacements of obsolete equipment in order to increase availability and reduce operational and maintenance costs.
• Updating and maintaining technical and assets data (synoptics, drawings, inventory, equipment data)
• Analysing audit reports conducted by SHEQ and taking corrective action in conjunction with business owners to close findings.
• Educate and transfer knowledge to site operators on good utilization of equipment
• Developing recommendations and action plans in line with the customer strategy.
• Review and recommend WOOI, improvement and investigations from Specialists reports
• Act as Maintenance Manager as and when required

Projects

• Assist and develop a clear project definition and thereafter project scope incorporating information from all departments and disciplines and clarifying cost estimates, project risks and complexities
• Assist the Engineering Manager/Project Portfolio Manager with the delivery of project scope requirements relating to the maintainability of equipment and design for maintenance
• Maintain and compile work procedures and all related documentation for the optimisation and improvements of engineering systems.
• Analyse project implementation regarding cost, time and impact on machinery and to ensure work is done in the most cost-effective way with minimal machine downtime and according to standards (Vopak Global, ISO, ASME, API, SHEQ and good workmanship).
• Ensure accurate specifications are provided on a project and work is carried out according to specifications.
• Monitor installation and commissioning to ensure that equipment operates according to requirements after installation or repair.
• Identify potential threats or risks to project progress and success. Proactively implement corrective action/give feasible solutions to assist the project team.
• Lead and implement maintenance projects

Innovation

• Initiate improvement ideas together with supportive research on different alternatives to further develop and possibly implement.

Qualifications & Experience Required

Tertiary Qualification

• BTech; BEng or BSc Eng. in Mechanical/Electro-mechanical Engineering

Experience

• Experience of at least 5 to 10 years with demonstrable skills in mechanical equipment maintenance execution, site maintenance work and asset management with an understanding of how to improve integrity and reliability on assets
• Preferable experience in petrochemical systems design and construction activities
