M365 Migration Specialist

Job Description

As an M365 Migration Specialist, you will be instrumental in executing complex data and tenant migrations to Microsoft 365. Your expertise will ensure a smooth, efficient, and secure transition for our clients, minimizing disruption and maximizing the benefits of the M365 ecosystem. This role is hands-on and focused on the technical execution of migration projects.
Skills and Experience
What you'll do:

  • Migration Execution: Lead and perform data migrations from various source environments (e.g., on-premises Exchange, SharePoint, file shares, other cloud platforms) to Microsoft 365 services (Exchange Online, SharePoint Online, OneDrive for Business, Teams).
  • Tooling Expertise: Proficiently utilize and configure industry-standard migration tools (e.g., Quest Migration Manager, BitTitan MigrationWiz, AvePoint, Microsoft native tools) to ensure efficient and accurate data transfer.
  • Pre-Migration Analysis: Conduct detailed source environment assessments, identify potential blockers, and recommend remediation strategies to ensure migration readiness.
  • Scripting and Automation: Develop and leverage PowerShell scripts for automation of migration tasks, data transformation, and post-migration cleanup and verification.
  • Troubleshooting & Resolution: Proactively identify, diagnose, and resolve technical issues encountered during migration processes, collaborating with support teams as needed.
  • Documentation: Maintain meticulous documentation of migration plans, procedures, progress, and post-migration validation results.
  • Performance Optimization: Monitor migration performance, identify bottlenecks, and implement strategies to optimize migration speed and efficiency.
  • Security & Compliance: Ensure all migration activities adhere to data security, privacy, and compliance policies and best practices.
  • Client Communication (Technical): Provide technical updates on migration progress to project managers and, where appropriate, directly to client technical teams.
  • Post-Migration Validation: Conduct thorough post-migration checks and validation to ensure data integrity and functionality.
Expertise:
  • Proven experience (X+ years) exclusively focused on M365 migration projects for enterprise clients.
  • Deep technical understanding of Exchange Server, SharePoint Server, and Active Directory environments.
  • Expertise with common migration methodologies and best practices.
  • Strong scripting skills, particularly with PowerShell for M365 and on-premises environments.
  • Familiarity with network protocols, firewall configurations, and proxy servers as they relate to M365 connectivity.
  • Excellent problem-solving skills and attention to detail.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a project-focused team.
  • Microsoft 365 Certifications (e.g., MS-100/101, MS-700) are a plus.
