Logistics Training Manager - Papua New GuineaFull job descriptionJob Title: Training ManagerLocation: Papua New Guinea (PNG)Contract: 3-Year Expatriate Contract with Option for RenewalReports To: Senior ManagementPosition OverviewThe Training Manager will lead and manage the development and implementation ofcomprehensive training programs across all disciplines of the transport and logisticsindustry, with a specific focus on trades relevant to the trucking sector. These tradesinclude heavy vehicle mechanics, diesel engine maintenance, auto electricalsystems, hydraulic systems, suspension and steering, brake systems, andadvanced driver training. The role will cover apprenticeship programs, tradecertifications, and advanced driver training, ensuring that the company meets its skillsrequirements to maintain the highest operational standards. The Training Manager willalso oversee third-party training providers and will be tasked with building a robustinternal training team capable of supporting long-term workforce development. A keyobjective of the position is to establish a succession plan, training local PNG talent toeventually take over the role.Key ResponsibilitiesDevelop and Implement Training Programs: Design and manage trainingprograms tailored to the trucking and logistics industry, covering key trades suchas:o Heavy Vehicle Mechanics: Training on the maintenance, repair, anddiagnostics of heavy trucks and equipment.o Diesel Engine Maintenance: Special focus on diesel engine operations,troubleshooting, and repairs.o Auto Electrical Systems: Training on vehicle electrical systems, includingwiring, diagnostics, and battery maintenance.o Hydraulic Systems: Training on hydraulics used in heavy vehicles,focusing on maintenance and repair.o Suspension and Steering Systems: In-depth training on the repair andmaintenance of suspension and steering components.o Brake Systems: Comprehensive training on air brakes and other brakingsystems used in heavy vehicles.o Advanced Driver Training: Ensuring drivers are trained to operatevehicles efficiently and safely, with a focus on heavy truck drivingtechniques, defensive driving, and compliance with safety standards.Training Strategy: Collaborate with management to assess the company's skillgaps and forecast training needs. Develop a long-term training strategy alignedwith business objectives.Management of Apprenticeships and Trade Training: Establish and manageapprenticeship programs for new hires, particularly in technical and trade roles,ensuring they receive high-quality, certified training in the relevant truckingindustry trades.Coordination with Third-Party Providers: Identify, select, and managerelationships with external training providers, ensuring that all outsourced trainingmeets company and industry standards, particularly in specialized areas such ashydraulic systems, electrical diagnostics, and advanced driver training.Departmental Development: Establish and lead a dedicated internal trainingdepartment. Hire and develop training staff, ensuring they are capable ofdelivering high-quality training sessions across all relevant trucking industrytrades.Training of Trainers: Implement a structured "train the trainer" program toensure that internal trainers are fully competent in delivering specialized trainingprograms.Succession Planning: Prepare and mentor local PNG nationals to eventuallytake over the role of Training Manager, ensuring knowledge transfer and localcapacity building.Compliance and Reporting: Ensure all training programs comply with relevantlocal and international industry regulations. Monitor, evaluate, and report on theeffectiveness of training programs and adjust strategies as necessary.Budget Management: Develop and manage the training department's budget,ensuring efficient allocation of resources.Qualifications and ExperienceEducational Background: degree in Education, HR, or a technical field relatedto the transport or logistics industry.Experience: Minimum 7-10 years of experience in training management roles,preferably within the transport, logistics, or trucking industry. Proven track recordof successfully managing large-scale training programs and working with third-party providers.Certifications: Relevant certifications in transport or logistics training, heavyvehicle maintenance, auto electrical systems, or driver safety programs arehighly desirable.Leadership: Strong leadership, management, and organizational skills withexperience in building teams and mentoring staff.Cultural Awareness: Experience working in a multi-cultural environment, withthe ability to foster teamwork and cultural sensitivity.Contract and Vendor Management: Strong experience in managing externaltraining partners and service providers.Benefits?
