Position: Librarian Digital Resources Focus (2 positions)

Role Overview:
Lead campus library services with a digital-first approach, integrating information literacy into curricula, supporting research and teaching, and ensuring access to digital resources. This includes managing the institutional repository and promoting open access.
Key Responsibilities:
Digital Resources & Systems
Manage and maintain access to e-resources, discovery tools, and off-campus access systems.
Monitor usage and guide renewals based on cost-effectiveness.
Ensure accessibility and troubleshoot access issues.
User Support & Instruction
Provide reference support (in-person and online).
Assist with research tools and citation managers.
Co-design information literacy content embedded in academic modules.
Create tutorials and learning materials for hybrid learners.
Digital Scholarship & Open Research
Support research data management and open access publishing.
Manage the institutional repository (metadata, ORCID, deposits).
Track repository engagement and submit termly reports.
Collection Development & Liaison
Align collections with curriculum needs.
Use evidence to guide collection updates, renewals, and trials.
Evaluate and train on new tools.
Governance & Compliance
Uphold PoPIA, copyright, and licensing standards.
Maintain records, SOPs, and participate in policy development.
Offer support across campuses and during extended hours when needed.
Professional Engagement
Lead staff development in library and digital skills.
Contribute to library strategy and advisory groups.
Promote inclusivity, accessibility, and innovation in library services.
Ideal Candidate:
A proactive, digitally-savvy librarian with strong skills in e-resource management, information literacy instruction, research support, and a passion for supporting higher education in a tech-driven environment.
Minimum Requirements:
Masters degree in Library & Information Science (MLIS) or equivalent (NQF Level 9).
Experience in managing digital resources in academic or research libraries.
Familiar with electronic resource management systems (ERMS), link resolvers, and discovery tools.
Strong communication, analytical, and problem-solving skills.
Preferred Experience & Knowledge:
Knowledge of licensing and copyright issues related to digital content.
Experience with digital scholarship tools, institutional repositories, or learning management systems (LMS).
Understanding of accessibility standards and inclusive design in digital environments.
Key Competencies & Skills:
Digital Collections Fluency: Confident with ERMS, discovery layers, link resolvers, and off-campus authentication systems (e.g., OpenAthens/Shibboleth).
Instruction & Embedding: Able to design and deliver embedded information literacy and create tutorials and class support.
Research Support: Skilled in literature searches, reference managers, basic research data practices, and ORCID onboarding.
Open Research & Repository: Familiar with institutional repository workflows, open access, author rights, and Open Educational Resources (OER).
LMS & Collaboration Tools: Proficient in Moodle, Microsoft Teams, SharePoint, and creating online help resources.
Analytics & Reporting: Uses data (usage, cost-per-use) to inform renewals and report on service metrics.
Accessibility & Compliance: Ensures accessibility and follows PoPIA compliance for data, licensing, and copyright.
User Service Mindset: Provides timely and courteous support both in-person and online; manages ticket/FAQ systems.
Collaboration & Liaison: Works well with academics, students, vendors, and cross-campus teams to align services with needs.
Planning & Delivery: Manages renewals, trials, and rollouts; adapts to deadlines and peak periods (e.g., assessments).
