Bibl/B.LIS, B.Tech: LIS or PG Dipl.LIS or B.Inf(Hons)or equivalent 4
year post matric qualification
2-3 years practical experience in a public library
Proven computer literacy in MS applications
The successful candidate will be required to work evenings and on
Saturdays on a roster basis
Proven computer literacy in MS applications
The ability to speak isiXhosa or Afrikaans with English in specific
libraries to run programmes with children in a specific community
Registered membership of LIASA (Note : candidates without
registered membership will need to obtain LIASA membership within
3 months of appointment )
A high level of literacy and general subject knowledge
Key Performance Areas
Assisting the public with reading and reference enquiries
Contributing to collection development
Performing necessary administrative tasks
Assisting the public with reading and reference enquiries
Managing information and participating in book discussions
Making resources available to students/learners
Planning outreach activities/programmes to promote reading and
library use
Assisting in liaising with community organisations and education
institutions
