Cementation Africa invites suitably qualified candidates to apply for the position of Lead Shaftsman 1 to be placed at Venetia Mine near Musina, Limpopo. The successful candidate will report to the Lead Shaftsman 2. The company will provide remuneration and benefits relevant and appropriate to the position. Preference will be given to Historically Disadvantaged South African (HDSA) candidates. Applications only open to South African Citizens / Permanent Residents.

Suitable candidates must possess the following minimum qualifications and skills:
Grade 12 or NQF 4 equivalent
Blasting and Onsetter Certificates of Competency
Recognised Shift Supervisor Certificate in Planning, Leading, Organising and Control
Valid Medical Certificate of Fitness, First Aid Certificate and EB Driver's License
English literacy and numeracy (minimum NQF 3)
Ability to lead a team and plan, organise and control sinking activities and resources
Proficient in MS Office
Good interpersonal, verbal and written communication skills
Ability to concentrate for extended periods
Problem solving and decision making skills within agreed parameters

Suitable candidates must have the following work experience:
Minimum 3 years of experience in an underground mining environment at a Miner level, of which 2 years as a Sinker in a vertical shaft
Exposure acting as a Shift Supervisor would be advantageous
Sound understanding of disciplines and safety protocols for shaft sinking
Ability to identify rock strata conditions and their relevant supports
Sound drilling and blasting knowledge for the specific mining sector
Competent to install and maintain services in a shaft
Explosive management skills
Knowledge of batch plant operations
