SUMMARY:
Lead Data Engineer - Johannesburg - R1.2mil up to R1.5mil per annum
POSITION INFO:
An international client is seeking a hands-on Lead Data Engineer to join a growing team. This is a high-impact role where you''ll shape and scale our data platform to power strategic initiatives across the business. Reporting directly to the , you''ll collaborate with cross-functional stakeholders to unlock data-driven insights that fuel decision-making and innovation. As one of the early hires in the platform team, you''ll work closely with our Platform Engineer and Head of Engineering to build the foundations of a robust, scalable data infrastructure.
Responsibilities:

• Work with the CTO,

and other stakeholders to build a data engineering strategy that enables the company to meet its ambitious goals * Scale and build out our data platform (data lake, ingestion pipelines, BI and reporting platform capabilities)

• Deploy data and the data infrastructure to support projects such as CRM, personalisation and Martech innovations
• Act as a technical authority, sharing your experience to establish data best practices in our engineering and wider team
• Continually seek out and share ways to improve our processes, platform, and culture

Qualifications and Experience:

• Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or a related field
• Experience and proficiency in data architecture, having architected and built:

Data warehouses

• Event driven architectures and event ingestion pipelines
• Integrations with 3rd party SaaS platforms, e.g. Salesforce, Hubspot
• Programming: Python / Typescript
• Cloud: AWS - S3, Athena, DMS, Lambda, IAM, CDK
• DWH / Data platform: Databricks, Snowflake, Redshift
• BI tools: Tableau, Metabase, Domo, Looker, QuickSight
• Big data and ETL: Spark, Glue, Airflow, DBT
• Streaming and Events: Kinesis, Kafka, Event Bridge
• Realtime visualisation: MixPanel, Segment, Amplitude, GA

The Reference Number for this position is NG60376 which is a Permanent Hybrid position based in Johannesburg offering a cost to company of R1.2mil - R1.5mil per annum negotiable on experience and ability.
