To provide counseling and support to study participants going through HIV and cryptococcosis treatment and prevention programs
Location:
Livingstone and Dora Nginza Hospitals, Gqeberha (Port Elizabeth)
Key performance areas:
Assist with the initial intake and obtaining of informed consent from study participants
Establishing a relationship of trust and respect with participants
Actively listen to participants and empathize with them
Provide pre and post-test counseling according to the DOH guidelines and as per EFFECT Working Practice Documents and Standard Operating Procedures
Inform participants of their CD4 and HIV viral load results
Encourage participants to talk about their personal issues and what they are experiencing at home and within the community
Provide HIV Aids information to patients that include but are not limited to adherence, ARVs, nutrition, hygiene, etc.
Provide support to caregivers and families
Make referrals as and when required including escalating matters to the site study nurse or medical officer
Follow the plan prescribed by the site principal investigator (PI)
Review, evaluate, and document participantxe2x80x99s progress
Record all participantxe2x80x99s information on files (paper and electronic)
Assist in tracking and tracing potential participants through the use of
RFA listings and provide a summary of outcomes
Required minimum education and training:
Grade 12
Certification in Basic HIV Aids Counselling, and Adherence with a recognised institution
Required minimum work experience:
Minimum 1 year HIV Counselling experience
Desirable additional education, work experience, and personal abilities:
Current GCP Certification will be advantageous
A thorough understanding of treatment, HIV care, and pre-& post HIV test counseling knowledge
Be respectful with a sound work ethic
Sound communication and listening skills
Ability to speak and understand multiple languages, especially isiXhosa
Ability to administer questions concerning sexual behaviors and other personal information
Experience in obtaining informed consent
