Job Purpose
The Senior Consultant will form part of a growing team engaged in a downstream Oil & Gas sector client programme with a focus on managing contaminated land assessment and remediation projects. The incumbent should thus have strong project management skills and a proven track record of working at petroleum retail sites for one or more of the petroleum majors.
They must be able to communicate effectively with colleagues' clients, regulators and sub-contractors. Sound knowledge of relevant South African environmental legislation is essential. The opportunity will also exist for the consultant to participate in other SLR key client projects within the mining, waste and industrial sectors.
Minimum Requirements:
Bachelor of Science (BSc), Geology / Hydrogeology / Earth Science or similar, and a postgraduate degree in related field.
>7 years' relevant work experience and >3 years Project Management experience.
Proficiency in MS Office with advanced Excel and Word knowledge.
Hold a relevant professional certification.
Willingness and ability to travel
Valid driver's license
Responsibilities
Provide technical input into all facets of contaminated site projects including Phase I and II Environmental Site Assessments (ESA) and remediation projects. Includes project management, some fieldwork supervision, sampling and reporting.
Scoping and overseeing field data-collection programs involving sampling and monitoring of soil, groundwater, vapour, aquifer testing and remediation system operation and maintenance.
Prepare remedial options analyses, remedial action plans and associated conceptual design works.
Draft technical reports recommend appropriate actions to ensure the client's objectives are met and comply with all regulations.
Coordinate laboratory services and interpret/visualize environmental data.
As Project Manager, the expectations will include that the incumbent:
+ Manages several active projects at a time through the proactive coordination of field staff to ensure project-specific tasks are completed in a timely and logical sequence to allow all project milestones to be met.
+ Ensures the accurate and timely completion reports, filing and archiving of project documentation and updating or relevant internal quality management systems.
+ Ensures invoice preparation is completed within the required timeframe, maintain personal KPI's, effective management of billing, WIP and cash collection.
+ Ensure projects are delivered on time, within budget and meeting the client's objectives. Play a support role to ensure the broader team's alignment with the Programme's technical approach and to drive overall Programme efficiency.
Contribute to business development activities and support line management by assisting with the preparation of proposals.
Professionally perform the role and build/maintain client trust, confidence and satisfaction.
Impart knowledge and the practical application of Health & Safety requirements unique to subsurface investigations and contaminated sites.
Communicate with all project stakeholders (peers, clients, managers, subcontractors, regulators)
Show a keen interest in their personal development and learning within the technical discipline.
