We are currently offering an exciting opportunity for

Laboratory Technician (Fixed Term Contract)

to join our team at the

NBL Durban Tea Factory

. This role is ideal for a candidate with a background in SANS 17025 and FSSC 22000Raw Material and Packaging Analysis, and Non-Conformance Reports (NCR) handling.


The successful candidate will perform physical and chemical analyses of Raw Materials. This position will be critical in upholding the Quality Assurance Management System, ensuring all laboratory equipment is calibrated and fully functional.

Line Manager: Laboratory Supervisor



Key Performance Areas:



Raw Materials and Packaging Control:



Inspect and test incoming Raw and Packaging Materials as per the NBL Sampling Plan. Conduct physical and technical analysis to ensure compliance with specifications using SAP. Manage Non-Conformance Reports (NCRs) for non-conforming materials and communicate results to the Laboratory Supervisor. Carry out analysis as required on Packaging materials at incoming and in-process

Non-Conformance Management:



Raise and manage Non-Conformance Reports (NCRs) from initiation to resolution, ensuring that products not meeting standards are isolated and addressed promptly. Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams for in-depth investigations on material or process deviations.

Process and Quality Control:



Perform in-process material tests and monitor critical data points. Proactively highlight any deviations from the standards to the Laboratory Supervisor or Quality Assurance Manager for immediate action.

Hygiene and Housekeeping:



Complete GMP audits according to the required schedule, ensuring any areas of concern are reported. To support Food Safety through GMP's and GLP being upheld at all times Maintain a clean, organized, and safe working environment within the lab.

Training and Development:



Ensure trainees and team members understand and can effectively execute their responsibilities. Training in basic laboratory techniques

Continuous Improvement:



Engage in continuous improvement projects to optimize quality control processes and contribute to efficiency and accuracy. To assist in ongoing product/ plants quality improvements through plant trials, HACCP and ISO standards

Minimum Requirements:



Experience

:

Minimum of 1 year in a quality assurance role within an FMCG environment, with exposure to SANS 17025 Audits and handling of Raw Materials and Packaging.

Qualifications

:

National Diploma in Food Technology or an equivalent qualification.

Additional Skills and Knowledge:



Proficient understanding of FSSC 22000, HACCP, GMP, GLP, and AIB food safety standards. Experience with SAP for capturing results and managing Non-Conformance Reports (NCRs). Strong analytical, problem-solving, and communication skills.
