Job Purpose
To provide technical support to lecturers during classes by making sure that equipment and materials are ready. Assist learners on a one-to-one basis with their projects. To ensure that machines are always functional and that they are serviced and well-maintained to ensure the smooth running of classes.


Job Knowledge, Skills and Experience
Matric certificate and registered as a medical laboratory assistant with the Health Professions Council of South Africa (HPCSA). At least 2 years' experience in a medical laboratory environment. Key Performance Areas / Principal Accountabilities
Assist with the preparation and issue of practical class material, including media, stains, and reagents. Prepare equipment for use in the practical laboratories. Ensure that laboratory safety regulations are maintained. Storage and disposal of chemicals, reagents, media, and specimens in accordance with safety regulations. Store keeping- monitor stock and consumable levels and ensure correct storage requirements are maintained. Maintain inventories of all assets in the laboratories. Housekeeping - cleaning of all used equipment and glassware. General maintenance of small laboratory equipment and the laboratory environment and working surfaces. Photocopying - preparation of notes and other required documentation for lecturers and staff required. General minor maintenance - check the lockers and keys; help with carrying of any heavy materials; assist with maintenance of equipment. Competencies
Good communication skills. Technical knowledge and skills as required by a laboratory assistant registered with the HPCSA. High awareness of laboratory safety requirements. Ability to maintain laboratory equipment. Good organizational and time management skills. Support of diversity Teamwork and co-operation. Quality of work and reliability. Customer service.
